Judy Garland Stereo - Opera vs. Swing, Pt. 1 - Betty Jaynes - Babes In Arms 1939

This song was recorded in stereo, but mixed down to mono for the film's release. Fortunately, these stereo tracks were saved and transferred to 1/4" tape in the 1950s.

I love this 1939 MGM classic movie Babes in Arms! The legendary, adorable, very pretty, very intelligent and extremely talented Judy Garland performs this number perfectly! I can't fathom why part of this number was deleted! Everyone in this movie does a great job!

Louis B Mayer never forgave himself for letting Deanna escape. Betty Jaynes was planned as a substitute, but she soon quit, without regrets, to become a home-maker with her second husband, a singer with Tommy Dorsey's band. The first, also under contract to Metro, was the baritone Douglas McPhail, also a standby (for Nelson Eddy). He joined Jaynes in the finale of Babes in Arms. MGM dropped him in 1942 and he killed himself in 1944. Betty lived to be 97.

Jaynes had a short career in "B" musicals in the 1930's and 1940's, but gave up show business to raise a family. She was convinced to come out of retirement for an episode of "I Love Lucy," where she played part of the chorus in "The Operetta"; she's the one in short blond hair and glasses.

Betty Jayne’s was married to Douglas mcphail also a singer in this movie. He committed suicide when he was thirty after Betty divorced him and took custody of their daughter

Why the preconcep against opera.?Its good tp hear both styles and on these movies they showed they could be together Liza Eliott.
