I wonder what this episode would've looked like from the perspective of someone who was truly interested in makeup as an art form. This host (and her circle of friends) almost seemed judgmental (aloof? indifferent?) and/or critical of being made up, wearing makeup, etc. without underscoring makeup's aesthetic value, particularly in the drag world of gender subversion. Also, she clearly didn't know who Grace Jones is. Perhaps some research and enthusiasm would help in the future in order to engage more deeply with these topics.
@mollytovxx41818 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've noticed this with a lot of their presenters. They seem to embody a lot of those "millennial" characteristics that people are always talking about but I generally don't see in real life. Sort of aloof, scornful, and hipsterish. But then I've just been rewatching some of Louis Theroux's documentaries so the bar has been set pretty high haha. It'd be nice if they went a bit deeper into the topics I guess, since the subject matter is normally interesting.
@sassafrass77778 жыл бұрын
I don't know Louis Theroux's work, but I will be definitely checking it out! Yeah, I agree with you about the millennial attitude presented here. Such a missed opportunity to explore the nuances of drag, but I supposed we can't ask more of these types of hosts who celebrate their own mediocrity.

You are so right... their topics are mostly really interesting and I love to watch them, but this time I was quite disappointed in the message... make up is something that belongs to many every day routines, but exploring the world of makeup as an art form is so different and it has so many depth that weren’t discussed in that video... Especially having two so talented drag queens to show you their world and what it really means to them to dress up for a show... I think it was also to many different aspects in such a short video, because they had to cut every part so short, that the real depth of it wasn’t showing at all... maybe a host, who is really interested in the different sites of makeup would have been better, and also a longer video, to really get into every single part.
@THENAFERATU6 жыл бұрын
Although I agree, I can see why they would go for this approach (having studied videography). Most people who watch //shouldn't// need to like or know about makeup to understand it (this video and others like it), it's not the makeup lover's minds you're trying to change, it's the makeup "haters" per say. I hope this makes sense ;;

Juggalos get 2 minutes, might as well have just left us out! It felt kind of forced anyway. Wish we could have seen her with the new makeup clearly. I think this vid had a lot of wasted potential. I like the host, the people she met were great, we needed some more time for it to come around imo.
@LaureComedy9 жыл бұрын
+Em Vambell -- umm they tried to see what they were using, nobody knew. cant make a story out of nothing dear.
@emsavings9 жыл бұрын
That's where my confusion comes from, it was forced, and why? The contouring was relevant to drag and a celebrity makeup artist... the ICP makeup was just there. I guess if the makeup artist weren't in it, it would make sense that both communities use makeup to make a statement. If it were just the drag queens and makeup artist it would have made sense as a contouring thing. It's inconsistent and unnecessary.
@RobTheMack9 жыл бұрын
+Em Vambell she also didn't really seem to understand what the juggalo relationship to make up was. I think it was just some extra footage they had from the gathering that they didn't know what to do with and they know keyword juggalo gets hit. I liked the piece a lot and as a juggalo i wish they would have left us out.

Makeup is expected of women, and women are less likely to be taken seriously in the workplace if you don’t wear makeup. In the video they mention that women who wear makeup to work are viewed as more powerful. Is that something we should accept? Makeup can be fun, and I enjoy the artistry, but it’s still a tool of the patriarchy. Women should be able to choose to not wear makeup and have it not affect them, the same way men have that choice.
