The juggernaut, a Volvo FH12 owned by CONCERT HAUL of Dartford, was pulling a container owned by UNIT45, The Dutch 45ft container specialist, who have introduced Europe's first truly intermodal 45ft reefer container. The driver thought he could find the M25 via South Nutfield. He got stuck on the RHS of the Avenue, and couldn't move. He was towed up the Station Approach by a local farmer Guy Amos and his Unimog, this enabled him to reverse back on the LHS of The Avenue so he could now turn the corner and aim between the two cars parked outside The Station Hotel, without hitting either.

I got stuck in snow some years ago artic milk tanker fully loaded one of these came and pulled me up one helluva steep hill passing stranded cars the lot all I had to do was keep engine ticking over and steer . ( Iweighed in when I got to the dairy almost 44 tons on the scales ) and this machine pulled me so easy . An awesome machine .

Yay! Reminds me of when I took the Mog to Colchester Garrison Open Day. Pongo on the gate wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a pass. Then his boss came over and asked me if I could tow the motorbike display team's artic out from where it was stuck. I said I'd love to, but the nice man on the gate won't let me in. You can guess the rest... one severe bollocking later and we towed the lorry out without any fuss. Unimogs: every neighbourhood should have one!

a friend of mine has a unimog 406 and has pulled several semi-trucks out.once he pullec out a volvo semi with a trailer and on the trailer was an excavator. volvo was sunk to the axles in mud and the 406 pulled it straight out! its a shame that i haven't any footage of it. and also the tires of the 406 where so worn out that they almost didn't have any profile. so i think that unimog deserves a big bravo! greetings from belgium!

Tod Lindley, if your gonna bother carrying that much weight I would just break out the chains. People don't like tire chains because they can't go that fast or they are a hassle putting them on, but they save lives.

Not sure why this was recommened to me after all this time but, 1) the lorry wasnt trying, he drove most of it with a slack rope 2) im pretty sure the low ratio box in mogs arnt designed for towing only slow speed work like trimming hedges etc 3) a kinetic rope is what you want. Id of moved that lorry with a jimny and a kinetic rope. Check out winder towing and toy haulers!

The ice roads are not that flat, because they combine land and rivers, and the rivers don't necessarily freeze flat. However, the different temps do make a big difference taction with this wet stuff being far worse. My point really is that even living in the UK, you should have tools in your kit for slop like this in winter. A shovel and kitty litter will get you moving and give your enough to usually extract yourself. It would have taken less time to shovel a path than to call in the Mog.

Problem is, it rarely snows much in this country so companies settle for just one drive axle, rarely any diff lock and rarely any suitable tyres for the conditions. It's a different matter if you're equipped for it.

That really sucks to get a big vehicle like that back in some tight residential area and then have to back it out or squeeze between obstacles. When you're driving something that big, it's best to stay off the side streets unless you know where they go. I have a 40 foot bus and I pull a trailer around behind it for an overall length of about 60 feet. When I go on trips, I have to be careful when I choose fuel stations or parking lots to pull into to make sure I can get in and out! :P

LOL. I live in an area where we get snow at 32F all the time. Itś annoying, I agree. I still carry some form of grit around in wintertime. If you stall, you put it behind the wheels, back a smidge down, and then put grit in front. Usually the big trucks/lorries need only about 6 inches and they keep on keeping on! It really looks like it got out on its own, anyways, so thats what I mean. :>))

Yes, I'm from Vermont; i have driven Saabs in a half-meter of fresh snow! A few CM is nonsense! But, in Virginia, I got ticketed for driving in '3" of snow, with winters on, in my Saab. Just goes to show how awful bad the 'Dixies' are at actually 'driving' despite the whole 'Dukes of Hazard' stuff. Give me 14" at a time any winter's day! This trucker needs a little remedial in CHAIN USE, and, certainly, your road crews were not on spot!

It appears that the trailer tractor regained consciousness berore the Mog fired up. After that the Mog only helped intermittently. A dual rear driving axle tractor would make all the difference in the snow.

@CMOSjockey I used to do a lot of WAY-off-the-beaten-path off-roading and there were situations where if I didn't think of a way to help myself, I would have been stuck in places that it would take a week to walk back to civilization. Especially when I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska. But most people are just not resourceful and self-reliant. They give up immediately and pay some "professional" an outrageous amount of money to do what they could have done themselves if they would just THINK.

More people drive on the left than in the right. Count them up. China, India, Japan, Australia . Now add up the population of those, no need to go further. By the way have you any idea why ?.It was to allow a horse to be controlled by the left hand whilst the right hand would wield a sword, lance-or similar .Attack your enemy head on !. Basically the idea stuck. Late coming nations developed after the gun was invented, so the tradition did not exist there.
