New Rascal Town mini ideas, either its just Rob's little familiar with paint dripping from its tail, or just as good...we get a Roblin! And its just this little burly looking goblin with a cleaver in one hand and a paint splattered weasel on the base. If we give him rules something like "Slap! Chop!" He strikes you with an open hand, chops with his cleaver, and then his weasel dances a silly mustache across your face or something.

I really appreciate the explanation at the end of the video. Doomsong is the story of The Guild, not your individual characters. You are just a revolving cast of actors within the Guild's story. That makes more sense hearing that.

I've been role-playing for more than three decades and at this point it's a hard sell to convince me to try new rules. I have my preferred "complex rules system" (Twilight 2013) and my preferred "simple rules system" (Hollow Earth Expeditions) and my preferred "mix of minis and RPG system" (Heavy Gear) and I rarely encoutner a story I can't fit into one of those systems. But Chris has just finished explaining the NPC action dice thing -- and I am intrigued. Now admittedly I prefer to read before I buy on things like this, but I'm only 30 mins into the podcast and all y'all have convinced me to look into this more. Good job, you!

Comment for engagement beast: The pronunciation of Japanese shows and things is wild, cause there are English versions which sometimes bastardise things a lot. From what I've seen, Gundam is Gandamu (u is sometimes silent in Japanese, like desu) - Gun like the firearm and dam like the barrier, so /ˈɡʌndæm/, which is hard for some Brits (hi, Peachy) cause they pronounce gun differently than a lot of others :D So ʌ is like aaa at the doctor.

Regarding Gundam pronunciation: gun-damn is a very British pronunciation of it. I don't know if it's due to early dubs of the anime or something, because I believe there was one where they pronounced it in the very British way. Many are pretty used to it being functionally an accent that way though so don't worry about it too much!

And now the video is over. My impressions on Doomsong: I do really like life-path style character creation. I'm less keen on systems where the setting is baked into the rules - I want to be able to take a set of rules and tell any story I feel like with it. And this feels like the setting is very, very baked in. I'm also not keen on the idea that it's a d6 for RNG. That's just such poor granularity. The description also feels very Gamist, whilst I'm much more of a Simulationist/Narrativist role-player. I'm still going to have a look at it, if there's an intro booklet or something I can read through, but I'm not sure it's the right fit for my style. Character creation was certainly amusing to listen to. Of course, it was also a classic example of why the "set expectations and tone" conversation is so important - Louise was very much not on the same page as Chris in several places. But listening to all your chaos was certainly a good way to fill an hour on a very cold and snowy sunday night. (Currently -15C outside.)
