The AE101 FXGT used to be a very desirable car about 20 years ago in NZ. They commanded a decent premium over their Levin and Trueno counterparts on the used market. As time went on they became less and less popular and now the only ones left on the road are automatic or are someone’s poor condition cheap hack.

I have a 2005 Toyota RunX, it’s the 1.4 VVT-i model in Cape Town, South Africa. In some other parts of Southern Africa, it’s also called the Allex or RunX as well. We have the standard 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 engines, including the 2ZZGE RSi as well 200 models of the 2007 TRD. Absolutely underrated but deeply loved in the SA car scene. I know it’s modelled under the ‘Corolla Sportivo’ name in Australia. But nonetheless, it’s a beautiful car. My mom has owned it since day 1, fetch me from school and driving off the showroom. Now, 18 years later, I’m the owner (so technically, 1 owner ever).

Corolla T-Sport was available with 3- and 5 doors at least here in Finland. It was awesome to see Runx on video and see differences, main one being head and taillights. They seem to have also many little things more, well obviously because they were sold on their home market. Never knew E10 GT existed, last Corolla GT here was E9 GT with FX and liftback models (both 4A-GE). From Corolla fanboy to another: thanks for sharing this video.

I remember the FX GT was up with the 1.8ltr Pulsar N spec (both look similar from side and front profile). Unfortunately for both, they were up against Civic Type R and MiVEC Cyborg R in the 2 door hatchback market on the streets and tracks in Japan and South East Asia. Now u know why its under Forgotten Gems and many never knew the E10 existed together with the Pulsar N spec, no one wanted it compared to the new Type R and Cyborg R even with 20valves for the FX GT and a 1.8ltr NEO in the Pulsar N spec.

E12 were ZZE123R in Australia, or Corolla Sportivo. The ones that came to Australia were made in South Africa.Leather seats and climate control..Lift was from 6400rpm to 8400rpm. Fantastic car

Here in south africa the run x was sold as is still really popular, we got every trim model from the 140rt model all the way to the rsi and the trd , theres never a day that goes by where i dont see one, pretty common over here but its amazing to think the rest of the world never really got them .

I really wish there's a modern hot hatchback that has the low height of the hatchbacks from the 80s and 90s. Ever since the 2000s, superminis and B-segment cars in general have become so tall that even the sporty versions don't look all that sporty.

What a great fuckin video man. We actually got the FX Corolla AE82 and AE92 GTI with the 16V 4age here in Germany, however I did not know about the 20V AE101. That AE101 absolutely blew my mind. Regarding the E12 Corolla T-Sport in Europe, it did come as 5 door in some countries, Sweden being one of them. And there was also a T-Sport TTE Compressor version where Toyota Team Europe basically put the exact engine being shipped in the Lotus Exige S into the Corolla (It may even have been the testbed for that engine as the Lotus was sold from 2006 onward) 😄 Only made 215hp, but pretty cool with a supercharged 8k rpm engine from factory! We also never got that front end on out hatches, only on the wagon. I was once considering building a T-sport wagon, with 2ZZ-GE and a hatch front end.
