Wow, gotta give props to Yusuke at the end there. Anyone would have lost it and straight up cause a scene after hearing an insult such as that, but Yusuke really controled himself! He got the information that he needed first and then (rather calmly) explained to Natsume why his commentary on Sayuri hurt him so much... This is why Yusuke is my favorite character in P5!!

I just realized that this game has been giving focus to the Thieves that all fell off in importance as the story progressed in P5. Anne, Yusuke, and Haru are all getting some real personal scenes with the Jail rulers that they didn’t get since their introductory dungeons.

Since P5 first version, the writers decide to tone down the writing style, giving others some spotlight. Royal gave a lot of spotlight to Akechi with new characters in the mix to expand the lore. Its kind of akin to Aigis having a central focus in FES and the Answer, sodifying both of their roles as deuteragonist of the new canon in their respective generations. Scramble shifts the importance to the other thieves, giving them the chance to shine. Even the new members Sophia and Zenkichi have a lot of importance akin to Kasumi and Maruki. Its like how P3 and 4 balances out the cast developments while putting some thought to the missed out/new characters.

What do you mean by personal? Kamoshida was very personal to Ann, so was Madarame to Yusuke and Kunikazu for Haru.

Thomas Fairburn Yes, those were their introductory dungeon bosses. After that, all three of them became less and less relevant to the plot at large. Ann wasn’t as badly effected as Yusuke and Haru, but she still never reached the same level of importance after Kamoshida was beaten.

@@Mgauge I mean it's not that different here. This follows the standard villain of the week formula just like before after that it's onto the next party character focus. The Thieves as a group all tie into the large plot than individually, each of them contribute to the dynamic with their own speciality. Debatable to say they aren't important just because they aren't like Morgana, Makoto and Futaba. It would be contrived as hell to have a tie in for every single individual member to the larger plot beyond some of their arcs. Besides Haru has just enough stake in having Shido taken down as Joker, Futaba and Akechi. Also the Palace Owners barring Kamoshida are connected to Shido plus Kobayakawa and SIU Director which are pretty relevant for Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke and Makoto to be invested.

Strangely enough, Natsume reminds me of Gilderoy Lockhart from Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets just by the way he's operating : stealing, imitating and copying someone else's work only to use it for his own benefit except it can easily be exposed. All he needed to do is to get rid of the original creators by applying the amnesia spell. I think Natsume is doing exactly that at the moment, magic excluded.

I think Natsume would make it far as a fanfiction writer. To be honest, most of my stories online are written in the manner he does. The only difference is I admit to it, give credit to the original authors, and claim no ownership over any content in my works other than original characters I make for the plot.

Just think of the Jail Kings in a similar situation as Palace rulers Sae, Futaba and Maruki. Also keep in mind in the whole Phantom Strikers, you are supposed to change the targets for the better, not ruin them unlike the true evil targets in base and Royal campaign. It might be too long to type down an explaination by phone so I do it later by laptop.

I think you need to understand/play Royal in order to understand Scramble. Royal true final arc is the basis/inspiration of Scramble narrartive. Also the 2 new playable (Sophia and Zenkichi) have Arcana outside the standard deck, like Kasumi and Maruki. Sophia and Kasumi's Arcana, Hope and Faith comes from the visconti safroza deck. Both awakenings play out in a similar manner through story progression. Zenkichi is Priest from the Thoth deck (Hunger, Aeon, Universe), counterpart of the Hierophant. Maruki is Consultant from the Eitteilla tarot, the counterpart of Magician. You can understand his Arcana placement through story progression.

While Binge-watching (as of writing this is the furthest) It feels like for Alice, A Genderbent but also Flipped Version of Kamoshida (Ann was reassuring and not Upset, Alice is treating Men worse than women by stealing their wishes, and Both have more lust-like interference in design and character interaction (Plus as a little note, in PQ2, Kamoshidaman's Final form is VERY similar to Shadow Alice)), While Natsume is similar to an Alternate Madarame, Both in Mediums they're famous for, plausible Conviction (Plagiarism) and also for trying to be perceived as Humble but actually a rotten soul (Plus Natsume references Madarame)... Coincidence? Don't think so!

You can see what the problem is with Natsume’s writing, it’s not inspired or done something like that it’s very literally copied the same plot lines and dialogue from other titles. If he was writing with inspiration he’s still writing with his own ideas but like Yusuke said there’s no passion or in other words no thought put in to the book.

Because of the new canon, Scramble took concepts of Royal in depicting the new targets, even the Jail have the same function as the Dark Hour in 3 and Maruki's Palace in Royal. They took the concept on trauma warping desires into distortion and how people think their past trauma can justify their cruel actions towards others, creating the vicious cycle. Its similar to Maruki's grief distorting his motivations of a happy world, made worse by his messed up Persona. In a sense, despite the targets being the Kings, they were self locked in their own cognition jails, a poetic irony. Due to the focus of the vanilla version being Ren, Royal empathize on Akechi with new story driven characters, they decide to let the other Phantom Thieves have a spotlight in Scramble. Even the new playable Sophia and Zenkichi have great character developments in the campaign. Both Sophia and Zenkichi, like Kasumi and Maruki have Arcana outside the standard deck. Sophia and Kasumi have the theological virtues within the Visconti Safroza deck (Hope and Faith), even having similar situations and awakenings. Maruki is the Consultant, the equivalent of the Magician once you learn about his past. Zenkichi is Priest, the equivalent of the Hierophant as seen in his role as the adviser and father figure. It won't be a surprise if they have another girl playable characters with Charity as her Arcana to complete the set, though unsure if her awakening follow the last 2 (false in 1st half and true in near endgame). Since the first Persona 5 mainline game release, the creators decide to tone down the writing methods of the new P5 gen stories and enhanced version like FES, Golden and respective spin off canon timeline sequel games. Like the Answer and Golden, Royal do give a clear statement that Persona users still have to fight despite their current trails being over. So won't be a surprise for another game after Scramble to connect Royal plotline like Arena Ultimax, even though there's a faint reference in the true final jail. Kind of prefer a different gaming genre instead of Arena style for the next sequel since it makes the P3 and 4 gen unique.
