Dementia is an illness that steals your memory. I was the one in the family that went to the home to see Mom once a week for the last three years of her 11 year struggle with dementia. For the last year I could only stay for 10 minutes, it was so heart breaking. When they would say, your son is here to see you, she would look past me at the door. I lost my angel, Susan in 1983. We were only together for two years and I thought I would never get over losing her. I might have gotten used to her not being around, but I never did totally get over it. I guess none of us truly ever do. Life goes on. I’m not a very religious man, but I do hope to meet her again.

This is such a heart-felt song. When my wife and I first started dating, I told her that I like to call my girl by a term of endearment, like "sweetheart", "baby", etc. When I said "Angel", she said "Yes, that's what I want you to call me". And I did. Up until the day she died of breast cancer at the age of 28. I watched her take her last breath and held her hand as I cried now knowing that she joined the Angels in Heaven, waiting for me to be with her again. I was out of the house when she started dying. I was running some errands but her mother and sister were with her. No one called me to let me know her life was ending. I got home just in time to see her take her last few breaths. I feel like she was holding on until I got to her bedside before letting go. My advice to everyone, whether it's your husband or wife, is to cherish your Angel every morning before it's too late.

@chiselmarr14142 жыл бұрын
@@revacohen "Angel of the Morning" was originally offered to Connie Francis, but she turned it down because she thought that the love affair lyrical message was too risqué for her image. Connie Francis’ team initially passed “Angel” over because they thought the affair angle of the lyrics was too risqué, but the tune became a hit for Billie Davis in 1967 and then again the next year for Merrilee Rush, whose version is one of the best-known, alongside Newton’s. As ’80s pop country singer Juice Newton sings about an illicit love affair she just can’t shake in her 1981 hit “Angel of the Morning".

I think it's about an ongoing affair, the way she says "Baby" and "Darling" -- you don't do that with a one-night stand. The lyrics are so beautiful in that they are somewhat abstract.

This song was written in 1967 by Chip Taylor. Two female singers recorded it before it drew wide acclaim as a hit and made famous by Merrilee Rush in 1968. It was then sung and recorded by other female artists, none of which drew much attention until Juice Newton, the last to record it, made it famous again and sold more copies than all the others. But, I like Merrilee Rush's version recorded in 1968 the best. -- If you're interested, this is Merillee Rush's version recorded in 1968: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGXViq1vhqapmrM

This song was recorded by Merilee Rush back around 1968 and became a hit then.

Merilee Rush had a huge hit with it in 1968 and it was sung before her as well. It is but, Juice Newton did not write it. Her voice is awesome though. Love the way her version rides out at the end.

This song always reminds me of a wonderful girlfriend I met in 1980 and whom I lost in 1988. The time with her was the best time in my entire life. This wonderful song will alway stay with me for as long as I live. Thank you Juice Newton for this present to the world.

You are right. The society was far more human and valuing human touch and sentimentally more musical and artistic. Unlike nowadays, too IT and machines-driven. Melodies now mostly created through computer music! And lyrics less well written unlike 50s-early 90s.

When this came out in 1981, I was barely 18, much too young to understand what the lyrics meant (certainly too young to understand the original 1968 Marilee Rush version, when that came out), but now having been many times in the position Juice is singing about, the lyrics resonate with me. Love -- and particularly loving someone who is largely unavailable -- means you make compromises and concessions that you otherwise never would, knowing that you'll almost certainly end up being emotionally annihilated in the end....but it's a road we willingly go down.

Very well said ChanelNo19. I love this song as well and can certainly relate to the lyrics!!!
@colmohiggins69742 жыл бұрын
Chanelno19: Merilee Rush did not do the 'Original version. Chip Taylor wrote the song way back and before Juice stole Angel performers such as P.P. Arnold (one of the Ikettes), Evie Sands, Billie Davis,, Dusty Springfield, And after came Chrissie Hynde with what many say is the 'best' rendition of what is an iconic ditty. Juice sang, imho, without much emotion though her looks, band, and marketing won out. My personal fave is Evie Sands. Taylor sang the song too, pretty well.
@kevinpilling25852 жыл бұрын

@@kevinpilling2585 Thanks Kevin. 'Angel' is an iconic and impactful song. Many, many covers to which I listen critically. Alvarros effort is notable! Many factors come into play. In Juice's case her voice is barely in the Top 10 imo though she has great hair and a wonderful band plus the Marketing was top notch. The New Seekers rendition with Eve Graham singing has come to light and is now amongst my Top 5. Merilee's sound has mood which makes the words work. It occupies the No. 1 spot for me.
