Jamaican reggae musician Winston Hubert McIntosh, professionally known as Peter Tosh, was born on October 19, 1944 in the rural parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. He sought refuge from the rigours of poverty in pop music, notably the R&B and du-wop beamed to the Caribbean by American radio stations. Having cultivated his guitar skills and his expressive baritone vocals, he began playing with fellow Trench Town youths Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob and Neville O’Riley Livingstone, better known as Bunny, in the early ‘60s. It was also at this time that he changed his name to Peter Tosh.

My father was a childhood friend of Peter Tosh, and it's still funny to hear him talk about stuff they'd do together and think, "Riiiight, Dad's friend is a big deal."

As far as I know from reading a number of books, including Peter's autobiography, many articles and listening to Peter's numerous interviews, this is an accurate and honest portrayal of Peter's life, world class music and life philosophy. Thank You. Nevertheless, in so many regards, Peter has still not been accorded the full honour and recognition for his work and contribution to Jamaica and the world which he so rightly deserves.

No Other Musician in the World would sit in a Marijuana FIELD for his debut studio album.. 'Peter was the pioneering ambassador for the decriminalization of Cannabis '' Peter gave some of the most dangerous speeches ever given by a musician his Speech about Legalization- Montego Bay,1982- shows how much of a Revolutionary he was

My Libran ♎ brother Peter Tosh ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💯 I didn't know much about him nor Bob Marley until I was in my 20s. It's a shame what his friend did to him. I'm quite sure if he had money to give him he woulda gave it but to murder a man who looked out for you? Naaaah...not cool.

Comparing Tosh to Lennon and Marley to McCartney does not seem appropriate. If you really feel the need for Beatles analogies, I'd rather say Tosh was the Wailers' George Harrison! (at least artistically)
@caramia4143
@caramia4143 6 ай бұрын
Lennon was more political, meanwhile McCartney wanted to remain more commercial and do "silly love songs", as Lennon said. George Harrison was the more spiritual one of the Beatles, yes, but Lennon was also that way. Along with his activism and troubles with the US government similar to Peter Tosh and his run-ins with Jamaica's government not liking what he was saying, I think the comparison is appropriate.
@fredvan6043
@fredvan6043 5 ай бұрын
@@caramia4143 I was just referring to Harrison for being a good guitarist who occasionally had his moments as a songwriter. But when it comes to being the most spiritual, then Bunny should be the Wailers' Harrison. On the other hand, McCartney (just like Tosh) was a more accomplished musician than Lennon, while Lennon - just like Bob (who was by NO means less political) - was a far more versatile lyricist and songwriter. Which just proves that any Beatles comparison makes no sense at all.

There's nothing tragic about this man's end. He was already dying of envy from the success of Bob Marley. Now that he's dead there can be the usual speculation as to how successful Peter would be after Marley's death. He wouldn't be successful because instead of talent, he was filled with envy.
@mandlambukwane1664
@mandlambukwane1664 Күн бұрын
He is successful. He was a man of the past stepping in the future...last year South African government led by the party that fought Apartheid honnoured Peter Tosh for his relentless fight against Apartheid, his speeches about the suffering of South African People...he is being and will forever be celebrated and honored around the world...he was stepping in th future...more appreciated and Honored than when.he was alive. More.militant than any musician ever lived

@@mandlambukwane1664" relentless fight against apartheid "? He was armed with an M16 carbine? He was just an artist and not a great one at that. Protest in his songs were just a niche market for him. But if you hold him to high esteem, you are free to do so. You may and you don't have to believe me but I'm a Jamaican from west Kingston and I knew all these artist because one of my relatives were in the entertainment business. I won't give his name here.
