I've just taken my first class too. Guess t is Taboada lineage. Its head is Rich Cotterill. Seems it can be adjusted to any other martial arts. I'll definitely go on. It would be good to see your feet too. Thanks for the video!

There are many views of the background... Kali, the word is from HAND BODY MOTION from before Spanish additions of Arnis and Escrima. The Indian influence should be understood and no person can say with finality that the selection of Ka and Li to form Kali was not in honor and auspicious invocation of the Hindu Goddess. Many martial arts denominations have deity references. Balintawak was devised to bring roots of the Filipino Martial Arts into a modern practice emphasizing maximum practicality and maximum transfer to all equipage and situations. The simplification to one stick causes integration of many flows of Kali techniques as well as compatibility to other systems. The stick is not a stick. The Spanish occupancy limited blade use and this led to the stick as a replacement open variable. You gotta' use something to learn; sticks were legal and the tradition stuck because of the beauty of the open variable and how skills transition to empty hand and whatever is around when defense must happen. This video is a very good source. There are practice sticks from 3/4 inch to 1 inch in diameter, defense sticks that are heavier to be capable of sufficient effect, these tend to range from 7/8 inch to 1 1/4 inch diameters, and there are practice defense sticks to take the wear of contact training while preserving the qualities of the sticks maintained for critical incident protection. As practitioners progress, a certain devastating efficiency is discovered and many decide Kali herself is involved.
