I’m pretty sure you’re correct - since you’re doing an onside either way, it’ll be on your half of the field from the start of their possession. Chances are, you won’t receive that onside. So instead, planning for the worst in both instances (them receiving the onside and scoring). Is (imo) the best thing to do :) Exp: Wouldn’t you rather just have to get it to the 40 with 5-20 seconds left and letting the kicker kick the ball rather than having to move the ball an extra 40 yards in such a short amount of time on foot? (especially if they happened to score within only a few plays, you STILL have the chance to score and go for 2 again. I say again because, you should go for the 2 after scoring on the first attempt because even if you don’t score the 2 point, you got the 6, then, you can get the 3 when it comes down to it- tying the game up. However, if they do end up scoring, you got the 2 point on both td’s. You tied the game even if that does happen. There is no way they’re going for the 2 point if they happened to score… IMO, you should always try to score the first possession and hope your kicker wins it for you. You have a much better chance of getting to the 40 and kicking for the win since the kickers kinda just needs to kick it; he does that every time on the field no matter the time left in the game. He literally kicks the ball for a living (not dissing him, just facts, the only thing stopping him is a mistake & a VERY VERY rare occasion of someone blocking it) It’s literally all risk no reward going for the field goal on the first possession. It’s just a mind thing, “YOU NEEEED THESE POINTS RIGHT NOW” therefore, they usually go for the ‘less risky’ play in the moment… But, that moment isn’t going to win you the game or give you any more hope. It’s just hoping it doesn’t bite you in the ass later on. In every situation, it would be better to not do what they did.. I think I explained that decently well, if you’re still confused I don’t blame you but i’ll try to explain further

The refs missed so many calls against Washinton and called penalties on Texas that weren't even fouls. They missed an Illegal block in the back, pi, holding, illegal forward pass and more. Texas should've either won or it should've gone into overtime.
