Thank you so much for this video. I've been thinking/dithering about buying the Juki MCS1800 - the current version of the older 1500 - plus the hemming attachment but it is really difficult to find out how to use them together. It is a huge financial investment and I wish that there were more really helpful practical examples like yours available. It is invaluable to be able to see how it is used in real life garment construction and pick up those little extra tips. I've subscribed!

Hi, I felt exactly the same when I was wondering about whether or not to buy the Coverstitch as it was my first time with this machine. I must say that whilst I don't use it all the time, when I do it's perfect for the task. I obviously can't comment on whether it's sufficient an upgrade to make from your existing machine, but the hemmer attachment has made getting a neat finish around hems particularly easy. I still pin and press in place before stitching so that the hem is held and doesn't twist whilst I sew, but that's just to make sure it stays in place. The stitching has always been great and without any skipped stitches and I find it easy to thread and to use. Thank you too for subscribing - I'm planning more dressmaking videos as we speak, but half my subscribers are here for the stuffed toys and the other half for dressmaking so it can be challenging to get the balance right. I hope you enjoy my other videos and Happy Stitching! 🥰

Thank you for creating this video. I don’t have this machine yet, I’m in the process of researching and learning about the 1500 before purchasing. I found this video to be helpful.

So informative! Juki’s tutorials here on You Tube are very short, vague, doesn’t go into detail and useless. Your tutorial is very helpful. Should you press your hem first?
@ClaireEngland1Ай бұрын
Hi, thank you. I’m delighted you’ve enjoyed it. Yes, I’d press first, but it depends on your fabric as some is bouncier than others but it should help. Happy stitching 🥰

@@ClaireEngland1do you have to line up those notches? I find if I want a hem that is 7/8 inches or the max that those lines or notches don’t all match up? I was hemming a lightweight knit and I noticed my hem wasn’t laying flat after stitching. I used a lot of pins too. Any tips?
@ClaireEngland1Ай бұрын
@ Hi, the notches are there just as a guide so sometimes mine don’t line up either. I think they line up for a particular size hem, so change as you choose your own hem depth. I’ve noticed i get a little twisting on my hems too. You can look at the settings to make sure both upper and lower fabrics are moving through at the same speed and that you are not stretching or pulling the hem as you sew. Try to let the machine handle the fabric with you just guiding it. I hope that helps? Sometimes it’s just trying adjust the settings and testing on some similar weight fabric before your garment. 😊

Does the hemmer attachment work well on very stretchy and light materials like bamboo jersey? Or does it just get bunched up?
@ClaireEngland1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ashlan, I've used it on the leg hems for bamboo jersey underwear for my hubby and I didn't have any problems with bunching up. I do hold the fabric in front of the presser foot and behind too (not sure if I have to or not, it's just what I've been doing) but I've not had any problems at all with the fabric feed. Is there a local supplier where you could take some fabric with you and give it a go? I hope that helps 🥰
