I love Jukka's style - so original, not some carbon copy blues wash-up like so many other guitarists in the 70's, but I can only listen to him via youtube as his albums are so hard to find here in Canada. I wish more record stores recognized the greatness of him and his various groups. He was a monster of a guitarist! I hope these videos stay up until I can find his records!
@elmore987 Жыл бұрын
You can find his records easily: They are all on vinyl. JTB (Just Those Boys), Jukka Tolonen Band, Oreo Moon, etc...Just need a record player. It's worth it.

I saw Jukka's band at the South Bank in London during the late 70's. They never seemed to gig much in the UK which was a shame. Very underrated guitarist. I would put Jukka right up there with Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin etc...

I would say better. Jukka is never 'hysterical' in his playing.

@@kikiu2619 Holdsworth was never ‘hysterical’ his playing. Jukka and Coste are stunning players for sure, and I am a big fan, but they are not in the same league as Holdsworth and McLaughlin sorry.

1978. In that year I was 26 years and I really feel sorry that I missed out this great band. Al di Meola, Jeff Beck, Lee Ritenour, Alan Holdsworth, Steve Howe, Ian Crichton, were amongst my favorite musicians then. Glad that I found them today.

There are many flaws in the music industry, but one of the most notorious is the fact that there is not a SINGLE filmed performance released as a physical copy from any Finnish prog-musicians/bands, certainly not in full. There is some footage of Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti, Tabula Rasa, Pohjola, Tolonen and others but they are nowhere to be found other than the internet, and there must be more to them than what has been released.
@RikiBuckingham10 жыл бұрын

@himtroy I think just the intro has that La Villa Strangiato-esque hi-hat bit, but shit the rest doesn't resemble Rush at all. I know what you mean with the limitation though, Rush had a few great progressive albums from 76-78 (progressive by North American standards). However; across the ocean years earlier is where the real prog rock was taking place. It's too bad Jukka is lesser known, he seems to be overlooked a lot by many. More young guitarists should take notes from Jukka.
@himtroy13 жыл бұрын
@faningo276 Couldn't agree more about non American prog being both first and often superior. Imyself never liked Rush, too much vocals for me. Also too robotic and not enough feel (obviously this is subjective). I can see the resemblance to La Villa Strangiato, but I don't think it's an influence or intentional. Jukka and many others have been doing jamming like this since well before Hemispheres. I think people are just too into Niel Peart and wish to think prog rock drumming came from him.

If you like Rush what on earth are you doing looking at this?This has no trademarks of Rush at all-Rush is a band that kids in junior high think are the epitome of good musicians.Then you grow up and hear real music like prog or fusion and realize Rush is barely average.I laugh when people tell me that Neil Peart is the best drummer ever-wow you haven't heard to many drummers then if you think he is the best.
@Jakexx0110 жыл бұрын
Even if I chose to believe every word you just released into the electronic void, it's still merely an opinion. It's equally as valid as the opinions of the Jr. High kid's you mock. Maybe you should be more concerned about how arrogant and snobbish you're coming off rather than what 'Jr. High' kids view as musical talent. For goodness sake, be the adult in the room.
@79SteelyMatt10 жыл бұрын
Jakexx01 Its a good thing I could care less about your opinions as much as you don't care about mine-so you want to start a childish argument over my comments go ahead I can take it-but really we are just wasting each others time with this type of nonsense.It was just an opinion and it must have upset you enough to take the time to lash out at my comments to make yourself feel better or above me so congrats on being superior to me and my comments you get a gold star for todays class Jake!!
@Deathshuck10 жыл бұрын
Matt, saying derogatory thing about Rush and Neil Peart in general just makes you look stupid. Those guys are amazing musicians and everyone knows that, their musicianship is the defining character of the band. They've been together for 40 years and are still touring and playing as good as ever. That alone is a sign of a band with real chops. Nothing annoys me more than musical snobs who think they're smarter than everyone else for listening things like prog and fusion. Rush *is* prog by the way, so you contradicted yourself with your comment. Have you ever even listened Hemispheres? The songs on that album were quite experimental and complex for the time. I don't mean to offend you, but it's painfully obvious that you have no clue what you're talking about.
