Great to hear the complete ballet here. I know a ten minute Suite (from a Naxos disc last year) but the entire work is new to me. Massenet never disappoints me, even in a somewhat overlooked later composition like this.

Well. it sounds like good ballet music to me. I wish Massenet had found a terrific story, a Russian company that wanted a full evening story ballet, a great choreographer. I think he could have managed a lasting ballet classic if circumstances were right. He had the right instincts.
