Great tips i'd also like to add that once you got the basics down to LEARN SONGS. In blues much like rock music you are often going to come across the same song played 12 different ways and having songs like sweet home chicago, thrill is gone, hideaway and so on under your belt not only puts what you know into context but helps you improve your technique and be able to perform what you know^. A secondary thing to add is don't worry learning a solo note for note in blues unless you really want to, i find its way more efficent and useful to take pieces of a solo you really like, learn it then apply it to your own playing and improvising that way it becomes its own thing. Reason I say this is because in blues its very very rare that any player will play the exact same licks and phrases in each performance of a song, literally every performance of a song is different and its good to get used to that yourself too as early as possible i think.

I dont know if it is the break I took or your videos but my skills are better than they ever have been. Good thing KZbin pays you 👍 you deserve it and I can’t put my lake placid blue guitar down. It makes me sound better and is so easy to fret. I couldn’t be happier -maybe cuz of the poly gloss or the wide neck feel, the great pickups idk 🤷♂️ feels like an American woulda been a waste cuz by , pre-2017 it is for all purposes an American. I want to jam Jules now -sometime i just play over your play -duel lead mess around, ha so fun ❤

Great stuff, Jules! After a looooooong hiatus, I've started back playing guitar on an acoustic. (I won't go into detail, but my electric is too heavy for my neck now since fusion surgery.) Even so, these licks sound great on the acoustic! Can't wait to find a lighter electric guitar! I'll have to check out a music store....

Hi Gary, the most important thing is allowing the thumb to be low on the back on the neck.

Those scale pattern diagrams are really hard to follow with the nut on the right. A right-handed player is looking down at their guitar with the nut on the left and the low string on the bottom, and most pattern diagrams show the nut on the left so the diagram matches the pattern that you see when you look down at your guitar. While the diagram matches the shot of YOUR guitar in the video, I think it would be more helpful to show the pattern with the nut on the left so it's easy to understand while looking at our own guitar.

I really enjoy these videos though I am quickly advancing back to a performance level ill never leave the den. Anyways, something I never saw 25 years ago was a looper. Seems to be the thing for playing with oneself nowadays…you ahh, do any video on a looper by chance? Is it something I should pick up? Been practicing to a lot of KZbin backing tracks but u know, why not?
@johnmaher5887 Жыл бұрын
I have a cheap looper pedal, and I love it. Sometimes you want to play a progression or a particular song, and you can’t always find backing tracks on KZbin. You can just strum the chords into the looper pedal and then loop it and solo over it. I’d highly recommend it.
@jeffro. Жыл бұрын
Yes, I'd highly recommend a looper as well, what he said. Required practice equipment these days!

Great lesson as always, but that diagram of the 1st position pentatonic scale is confusing! Other guitar teachers display this scale the other way around. Low E at the bottom and high e at the top.
