As February 24 marks exactly one year since Russia invaded Ukraine, TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer and columnist Peter Hitchens have a fierce debate over the war in Ukraine and the UK’s approach going forward.
Julia challenges Peter Hitchens to name what part of Ukraine should be given up for peace in the region.
Peter Hitchens: “I don't believe that the territorial integrity of Ukraine should be destroyed."
Julia: "But that's pie in the sky Peter!"

This is here and now ..Hitchens can't seem to get past that point that Ukraine should chose its future regardless of its past ....Russian paranoia about internal and external issues is the reason Finland Sweden now joining NATO which in effect means Russia itself has broadened the NATO border by being an aggressive neighbour so if you heap coals upon your own head you'll find them hot...as for peace deals they have been and are ongoing attempts in resolutions put forward but declined by Russia ...this was a war of choice not the only choice that in itself says it all...

Do you understand how much of food supply is tied into Ukraine? What happens do we let Ukraine fall and let Russia have the share of gas and oil in the area and grains and fertiliser? Trump warned what would happen if the EU became reliant on gas and oil from Russia, they'd use it against the EU, that's what they're doing. They're using it as means to force people to change their mind and back leaving Russia to it, to let them do whatever they want in Ukraine. What happens if our food supply is in the hands of Putin? Seriously have a think about it. We don't make enough grains and there's simply not enough room to do it, for both human consumption and animal feed, while also coming up with our own supply of fertiliser, and growing other foods we need. That's why we're so into this war, because this does affect us. It's deeply niave to think otherwise and shows a lack of understanding the public have about our food supply. Putin is not going to stop end of, as Julia said rightly so, Putin has done this before on 2008 and 2014. Putin is not going to stop unless Ukraine gives up more regions, if they do that he'll come again in a few years time as has been his game, he's clearly got a record for it. You're playing the appeasement game and Russia gets that treatment you can bet your right arm China will take Taiwan within a matter of months, taking control of the world's largest share of semiconductor chips we use in EVERYTHING, so we'd have Putin incharge of food supply and Xi in charge of our ability to make anything electoral. Is that really what you want to risk? Because it's a very real possibility. China may still invade Taiwan either way, but the west cannotoe down and let them get away with it, not unless you want to live under a world order in which Russia and China along with their allies like Iran are the leaders.

How when Putin wants the region's he's taken and Ukraine say no they're ours? They are under international law they're still Ukraine's, so how do we get round this? Putin said he wouldn't invade again after 2014 and he was given the territories, what makes you think this time he'd tulry mean it when he says "give me those regions and I won't invade again"? How? He's taken Georgia and Crimea, he's not going to stop how can you not see that? Do you understand how important Ukraine is for our food supply aswell?

On mainland Europe, where that slaughter can be sustained endlessly, negotiations always end wars. This should have happened in 1915 or 16, but when you paint your enemy as a monster to get the people behind the war, you can't make peace. So millions die. In this case, western support is not meant to strengthen Ukraine so they can win, but to keep the war going as long as possible. To such an extent that the T-Shirt President is looking at Crimea.

Hitchens wants Ukraine to surrender. He has repeatedly called Ukraine a “fanciful country.” Over the years he has attracted a massive fan base of putler loving trolls. In 2010, Peter Hitchens travelled to Crimea and wrote a sneering article that set out the Kremlin’s justification for thieving land off Ukraine in detail. In it, he described Ukraine as a “fanciful country” despite the fact that Kyiv was a thriving Christian city many centuries even before the existence of Muscovy. Just four years later, Crimea was invaded and all the talking points of his 2010 article were deployed by Kremlin propagandists. The article can still be seen in the Hitchens archives. Since February 24, Mr Hitchens has continued his attacks on Ukraine, in spite of, or perhaps because of the systematic genocide being inflicted upon innocent civilians by the murderous torturers, thieves and rapists of Putin’s army. Hundreds of children and many thousands of adult civilians have died already. If anyone doubts that the genocide was pre-planned, they only have to read what RIA Novosti officially published before Putin’s evil onslaught. Hitchens, like RT, is in effect a fully functioning component of Putin’s demonic war machine.

Julia’s argument and debating style is like listening to a person describe what she sees whilst she’s wearing virtual reality googles and has a “talking points” soundtrack chosen by CNN and BBC political editors plugged into her ears at the same time. There is absolutely no depth and sophistication to her argument other than, rather ironically, and with a straight face, saying “that’s why I am a Brexiteer” as though it makes her correct and an anointed view. (She even misses the point that both Boris Johnson and Sunak “voted for Brexit” and it’s anything but!). Peter was clearly exasperated being forced to a wildly inferior intellect whose only advantage was that she hogged the mic 🎙️ and is evidently proud of wearing an honourary badge that would read: “Loud Imbecile, who doesn’t pause for breath” Julia, try some joined-up thinking instead of pandering to the handful of simpletons who consume the diet of compliant mainstream narrative you’ve become an expert conspirator and shill for

Those that run things in the West... know that in time of war, people put their heads down and just get on with things. They will accept a lower standards of living and ever rising costs. The US prepped to blew up Nord Stream well in advance which is an act of war, consider what this says. It is also a continuation of the US policy to keep a wedge between Germany and Russia at all costs dating back to WW2 with additional designs to force Western Europe to be dependent on US petroleum/energy as opposed to Russian. This is an openly stated policy by multiple US secretary of states.

Great debate?!! I spat out my green tea when I read your comment. Julia spoke for 18min out of 20, having demonstrated that she thinks the earth is basically made up only of topsoil. Her knowledge and depth here lack any modicum of research, history, cause-and-effect etc. It’s called bloviating. She’s become a master at it. You’d think Boris Johnson and her ate at the same bullshittery factory Julia’s argument and debating style is like listening to a person describe what she sees whilst she’s wearing virtual reality googles and has a “talking points” soundtrack chosen by CNN and BBC political editors plugged into her ears at the same time. Peter was clearly exasperated being forced to a wildly inferior intellect whose only advantage was that she hogged the mic 🎙️ and is evidently proud of wearing an honourary badge that would read: “Loud Imbecile, who doesn’t pause for breath” Julia, seriously needs to try some joined-up thinking instead of pandering to the handful of simpletons who consume the diet of compliant mainstream narrative you’ve become an expert conspirator and shill for

Critical thinking is the ability to effectively analyze information and form a judgment. It also involves being aware of your own biases. Hitchens might pass the analyze and judgement test, but he fails miserably, being aware of his own baises. His disdain of the West clouds his rational.

Russia gave up the USSR , putin had a meeting with Bush in 94 and asked that the Us or Nato didnt start taking their ex states ,Nato has since taken on 14 of them. The USSR moved russian troops out of the warsaw pact countries ie Poland only for the US to put troops there . The past is very very important here and the US and Nato have deliberately gone against a country that gave up power and asked for respect for that, the US or Nato have not shown that

@@nickedwards2904 Poland and the Baltics are not 'their states'. The Russian empire is gone. No one in europe wants it back. There were no promises made to Putin or anyone on limiting new membership of NATO. Thats why Putin never provides any documents. Its just yet more lies to justify annexing territory from another country. And no one take's Putin's nazi claims seriously. Ukraine's president is Jewish. The far right polls less in Ukraine than anytime since independence. Certainly less than in Russia. And it doesn't make much sense Putin claiming he wants to 'denazify' Ukraine when he's sent in Wagner. A mercenary group of ex-criminals led by a literal nazi.

Many years before treaties were made to never have Ukraine as part of NATO and yet the Us and European countries have kept pushing. The Donbas region has and always will be Russian. There people have been raped, tortured and killed since 2014 and the West has supported that. As human beings we have to find common ground to create peace rather than stoke more fear and fighting.
