I just like that 1923 doesn't "whitewash" the Native American dehumanization stuff like 1883 did. That was some real BS - acting like "Indians" were these revered people that the imperialist Europeans got along so well with. "Oh! It's THEIR land after all! Let's go to them when we need to repair our clothes, wagons, heal wounds and illnesses, etc. They are holy people!" And the main character is this southern white bell that falls in love with a Native warrior and has this progressive battle with her family to go off with him... ugh. The whole storyline with the indian girls school is closer to depicting the horrors inflicted on the indigenous people by foreign settlers, at least.
@paladin1726 Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you were there. BTW: "Native Amerian" is a term invented by the same white government that restricted injuns to reservations and broke treaties. You must be shocked at the revelation of a white woman falling in love with in indian. Too bad you weren't hired as an expert in the field to let the writers know how it really was.
@AreolaGrande94 Жыл бұрын
@@paladin1726 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, so I'll just take it at face value and assume you're not. "Injun" is a pejorative term these days, and I'm also going to assume you meant it in terms of the offensive vernacular of the times. It (1883) just reeked of a lot of the rewriting of history that a lot of the 1984, dystopian, "anti-CRT" / fascistic book-banning maga crowd are engaging in these days (schools in certain counties Florida have outlawed the teaching of slavery, for example). I was put off that the 'happy-go-lucky' image of kinship between whites and indigenous peoples that was portrayed so overtly in 1883 was placating to that crowd of bigots. Was glad to see 1923 highlight the realities of the true plight of Native Americans at the hands of imperial-/colonialists (and the worst "-ist" combo in recent world history: racists + capitalists).
@paladin1726 Жыл бұрын
@@AreolaGrande94 to be fair and to not be disingenuous, the “MAGA” doesn’t want to ban “books”. They want to ban pornography in schools. Put your politics aside and exhibit integrity. Because you have no issue with l’ho liberals banning Dr Seuss books. The only banned books you have issue with are literally pornography. If you have a child and you would like your child to see pictures of a man giving another man a blow job, you can teach that in your own home. That’s not what school is for. Whites and Indians married. To assume that they didn’t get along ever is ridiculous. Indians hated whites, Indians hated Indians, Indians massacred Indians, whites massacred Indians, Indians massacred whites, whites posed as Indians and massacred whites. It all happened. And you know what you can do with your divisive CRT. I couldn’t care less about your self-imposed white guilt, and as much as you think black people and Indians aren’t as developed mentally as you and therefore you need to speak for them and nurture and cultivate, you don’t. You have zero idea how things really were in the 1800’s and you’re massively jaded by your politics. I’m done with you. Sorry you hated a fabulous show which painted Indians in a great light and showed them respected by select white people, even though whitey is the devil.
@AreolaGrande94 Жыл бұрын
@@paladin1726 You're delusional. Don't know what bubble you're living in, but here in Florida entire American History curriculums are being diluted - there is a concerted effort to minimize slavery. The civil war, arguably the most important event in the history of the country, is breezed through as some sort of scuffle between 2 legitimate sides that just had relatively minor differences of opinion. The civil rights era, suffrage movements, etc. All following the same suit. You do a lot of presumptuous assigning of my traits, race, character, without knowing anything about me. Sounds about right. I'm not white and certainly not "liberal." "Dr Seuss banning?" Wtf drugs are you even on? Get out of those Newsmax echo chambers you dolt. They literally lie about everything. They went down Mr. Potato Head rabbit holes to avoid covering January 6th hearings (just a bunch of 'tourists,' right?)... or wasn't it all a bunch of BLM and antifa guys and gals posing as white supremacists to make maga look bad? I hate 2 party systems so ascribe to neither. Both are con artists that feign culture war issues auctioning off legislation to the highest corporate bidders to make the class structure in this country as skewed as possible in favor of the uber wealthy. But if you can't see that one has turned into a fascistic fear-mongering cult of mostly white supremacy, you ascribe to all those things. The mere fact that a supposed president that literally attempted a coup is the favorite to try to turn into a wannabe dictator again a mere 4 years later says everything. "Leave politics aside." I wish. It's f***ing seeped into every aspect of our society. I love sports but can't go a day without politics infesting sports media coverage. Or we could just bury our heads in the sand and pretend like it's not a toxic influence in our society. Banning pornography in schools? Where the fuck did you go to schools where you could scamper down to the library and check out the one with men blowing each other? There is more pornography, incest, rape, sodomy, pedophilia, and violence/gore porn in the bible than most other books combined. But far-right in the highest levels of office want bible study as mandatory and try to go to a school meeting in Alabama (where, coincidentally, they still combine Mr. King Luther, Jr. Day [because it's Federal and they have to acknowledge it] with Robert E. Lee Day] and get mobbed out of the assembly. Hypocrites will hypocrite.
