Such a helpful video once again. Thank you Julia! I've been following you for well over 6 months, watching most of your videos trying to understand overthinking, anxiety and OCD so I'd have the right words for a family member. Not only do the symptoms put a huge stress on her but also on our relationship. Anyway, it's very useful for me to understand how overthinking often starts from the brain trying to take control of the situation. It's difficult to find the right time to discuss these topics deeply and productively with her as usually I find myself dealing with some acute issue of hers. Your videos about what to say and what not to say to someone struggling have been extremely helpful. Also your videos regarding boundaries and references to stoicism have truly been life-saving for myself. Keep up the good work!

Knowing that overthinking is the brain’s response to fear - and a desire to create safety helped me to realize that in many ways it’s about self-soothing and understanding that this solution is not “the” solution and that there are healthier options. Also - I didn’t see the link for the resource that you mentioned at the end - I’d like to check it out. Thanks so much for providing this video. Really well-thought out and you covered much information in a short time.

I've always been an overthinker, but especially during the pandemic it's been a lot worse. I'm struggling with the past and the fear of the future/unknown. I overthink about my past mistakes and what I should/shouldn't have done, and I have learned from my mistakes, but it's gotten to the point where I crave perfection and if I can't reach that, I feel like a failure and that I could have done better, therefore more mistakes will happen. It's something I've talked to my family about it, and they've reassured me that I'm doing the best that I can, but also that I'm putting too much pressure on myself. It's been really hard, and I'm trying my best to live in the present. Not in the past or future... I have a lot to do to get there, but I try every day.

What am I scared about? what do I think could happen? 2. What am I actually worried about? 3. Is this an actual real threat? 4. Why am I overthinking? What am I trying to control/accomplish? 5. Is there anything I can do about? 6. What is the feeling insecure in me that I might need to deal with? 7. What am I making this mean about me now? 8. Is this helpful? is this true? is this accurate? is this what I want to think about myself? 9. Do I need to be overstressing/over worrying/overthinking with this thing? 10.Will overstressing/over worrying/overthinking with this help? UPDATE: It works!!! Thank you, Julia. You just saved me $160 of my therapy visit.

I've had moments in my life where I was relieved to have thought of something. I would say to myself "Omg!! I'm so glad I thought of that!" It would often be because if I didn't, it would've caused a problem. A good example is when I'd go on vacation and then realize that if I didn't overthink, I would've forgotten to pack something I needed/wanted. Some things you just have to pack because there's no turning back once things are in motion.

Overthinking is when thinking is no longer helpful where we burn ourselves out with just constant harsh and tyrannical judgements and expectations thereby eliciting more resentment and despair without the goal for a more sustainable, peaceful and harmonius solution. And the latter is what we aim for and we take stock of that pain of overthinking (and also looking forward to a more ideal and positive and less worse place) to motivate us to start the journey towards that more helpful place of resolution. And as such, there are a number of examples in regards to strategies to manage it such as the one's Julia has mentioned. We can talk and talk until the cows come home, but eventually the key must be taking primary action... and start with the smallest, tentative steps possible so that the journey doesn't overwhelm you and therefore put you off by biting off more than you can chew.

This video is just for me who finds it very hard to overcome the habit of overthinking. Overthinking the future- the fear of not being valued/ liked/ not good enough if things don't work as they're supposed to, fear of being disappointed/missing out if things don't work out as you wish. Overthinking the past- fear of having looked stupid/seemed petty/ungrateful/not valued/not liked for what you've said or done or not said and done,or what someone else has said or done or not said and done. These are real fears for loss of status or esteem in the eyes of others (and in your eyes) and are just as real or more so than fears of physical harm. Thanks for your insights about this problem!

Now that I'm an adult the label of being a "challenged" person keeps coming back to me so I feel like I can never trust my gut on anything and with any decision I start wondering if I'm being naive or not, what the outcome might be, and then getting angry with myself for not being decisive. Listed each part of the event, what Im scared of, what happens if that thing that Im scared of should happen, and what the reality is of that happening as well as the actual impact of those outcomes. Turns out, as I was writing it, I started finding my fears a bit silly. I even hesitated finishing a sentence because it sounded so rediculous. And that's exactly why I did finish it. It seems that just confronting yourself with the fears you are having is sometimes enough to realise how insignificant those fears are. I truly feel a level of relief. Hello Julia, I have been stuck in Overthinking of a very hurt situation that was done to me by a family member at his mothers funeral. I was very hurt, and embarrassed about it, and didn't understand why it was done. It has caused me to worry and obsess over it for weeks. One day I feel fine and will try to just move on after thinking I have figured out why it happened, or after convincing myself that I am satisfied with decided I have the answer, but a couple of days later, I am right back at thinking about it, I can't sleep without taking something to go to sleep. I think the upset was because when I asked the person, why and told him how it made me feel, He just turned the situation around look like I caused it. And, it just added injury to insult. I am trying to let it go, but it's like unresolved anger, that keeps coming up. However listening to your video on Overthinking has helped me to try to look at it in a new way. Thank You,

I’ve been looking forward to this video since you announced it was coming, overthinking is a big problem area of mine and I always feel plagued by some worry! I hope you have a great rest of your week, and thank you for everything you do ☺️💓

So glad it connected brother. What was one of your biggest takeaways from it?

Julia Kristina Counselling I appreciate that very much. I really loved your point about control being an illusion, and how we shouldn’t always treat everything our brains tell us as being the complete truth. After all, most of the stuff we worry about is no big deal in retrospect

@@admirbarucija2018 I love that you took away the Control is an Illusion part. One of the most powerful truths I've ever learned. It's life changing, really.

Julia Kristina Counselling It makes me very happy that hearing that had a profound impact on you as well. Control being only an illusion is a very strong message seeing as our whole lives are spent trying to control our circumstances.

@@admirbarucija2018 Yes! And we have to ask ourselves - why? Why do we need so much control? What are we trying to protect ourselves from?

I talked to myself out loud about my past relationship for around two minutes. This video was up with your face and thumbnail “ How to Stop overthinking “ I look at you, stopped talking and just pressed play.

Hi Julia, I have watched all of your videos and I use your techniques almost every day. Thank you for making these. I am having a problem where I have major anxiety attacks over where our conscious goes when we die. I'm not sure why but I find myself thinking about this often usually ending in an attack. Can you make a video sometime how to overcome those fears and anxieties?

i think thinking abt tht we are overthinking and trying to deal with it or overcome it is also a toxic positivity. bcoz trying to think and analyse wht our brain is trying to say and engaging with it wether to stop it or any sort of thing similar can cause further problems and may not lead to a real conclusion. so my best advice is to make tht thought or every thought a normal thing. also try tofind out wht is realistic and try to compare ur thoughts with it and then u will feel tht whtever thiught tht u were engaging into was soo juvenile and try to pick up tasks tht are acheivable by u
