To me this appears to be the most important issue of our time ..it is so disturbing that so few people appear to be aware of how important and vital julians case is to our freedoms and therefore to any semblance of democracy ...the propaganda to smear julian and obscure the issue seems to be overwhelming..this can only be in the interest of the military, the corporations and the oligarchs
@42Mrgreenman4 жыл бұрын
I agree this is the issue of our time, and perhaps of all time. The freedom of people to put out information that is of public interest. I always get a shock when I realize that "Our time" actually started with WW1...When the capitalist powers first went to war due to a single death and subsequent domino effect due to a clusterfuck of treaties and trade deals. As they say, "The first casualty in war is the truth." and somehow we are still running the same economic system but now we have hundreds of corporate politicians to argue forever instead of a monarch and their small group of ministers. Information control has always been the way to power...It's almost so straightforward I don't know how more people haven't internalized this when those who control and distribute information lie boldfaced, right in the headlines in some cases. If you want to generate power for yourself, you need the information to build the generator. It's a direct conversion from knowledge to power...
@zantecarroll44484 жыл бұрын
S Crosmun Im so glad you think so ..every time someone agrees how vital this issue is i feel a little safer and conversely every time someone disagrees i feel a little more afraid.. but perhaps it is this emotional response that will motivate enough of us to speak out

@@Hans_Magnusson yes so i suppose the problem is how to let people know they will be directly affected by less journalism and less free speech and less accountability of the powerful ..and in particular the military. I only just realised recently how dangerous most of these celebrities are as it now seems obvious to me they are chosen and groomed and elevated by the corporations according to their willingness to tow the line .. other than a few rare free thinkers, as in this video talk, there is a resounding silence on this most important subject, we need some new strategies. I worked as a psychotherapist in the Prison Service for 18 yrs. Assange's assessment of the politics of many prison officers is absolutely correct. Many have Far Right sympathies. I recall when Trump came to power how many officers I knew saw this as a great thing and that Trump was what the world needed. "He speaks his mind!" "He tells it like it is!" was a common perception by many. It is not true of all officers however, and I knew many who were politically more astute. Even so, casual racism, homophobia and misogyny was not uncommon. Many also were in favour of Brexit and wiling to believe the rhetoric of Johnson and the current Tory government. We have still a very long way to go in order to stop the rise of the Far Right and more importantly, to deal with the policies of governments which have been sowing chaos throughout the world for decades. Assange needs to be released and his journalism acknowledged as a hugely important act in defending democracy and humanity in general.

We need to get the credulous elderly out of the way. They believe in a system that has long been gone and don't understand that the system cannot be repaired from within. Handing the lead to the younger generation will be a long road. The education system has been built to keep them uneducated, uninformed and distracted. No education in economics, social history, world events, world geography -- all against a Media that hides facts and spews lies. I work with young people and they are clueless about what they can do, what is in their best interest. Very depressing.
