@LordSendMeAnAngel3 My comment is old I no longer trust Julian Assange. For him to denounce real verifiable conspiracies such as 9/11 makes me question his motives. The same thing goes for Snowden and Noam Chomsky and Glenn Greenwald real dissent doesn't get televised. A real whistle blower in my opinion would be Michael Ruppert people who were threatened with their lives.

***** I used to think he was a disinfo agent, but not now. He's exposed too much & the controlled media would loose all credibility if they had not have highlighted him, also the media would ignore any anti Israeli rhetoric, so how do you know what he has said or not said about Israel?. The controlled media are not 100% under the thumb, maybe 90%. ie details of Dr. David Kelly's murder by British agents were scrutinised by some sectors of the press for all to read. Personally I reckon the guy is "Kosher" excuse the pun!

I understand Mr Assange position towards this film. Even though it's flattering to be portrayed by one of most valued actors - nobody likes to put his actual life in the film script which is a bit tendentious. On the other hand, in my opinion Mr Cumberbatch played amazingly and presented his character in very fair way.

Don't you think in the movie Assange was portrayed (specially in the end when Daniel was "suspended" by Julian) like he was losing it? In the movie Assange started having anger issues and started calling Daniel schizophrenic or so... Did it really happen that way? Was that the real Julian Assange?
@barbarakleczynska6946
@barbarakleczynska6946 9 жыл бұрын
I read in some reportage, that Daniel and Julian (Mr. Assange) had the quarrel, and eventually they separate and accuse one another of irresponsibility and pursuit of fame. I think that Mr. Assange was much more unyielding in his aspirations, because of this, his behaviour might be considered to be more aggresive or even neurotic. This is of course my personal opinion.

@@barbarakleczynska6946 and yet he held true to his beliefs unlike the other character Daniel… he may go to the grave holding onto his morals, so if they want to try to make a good man looked unhinged when faced with tremendous pressure, go ahead. I’d like to see anybody else even do half of what these types of people are doing.. while we sit here discussing the psychology of the characters, actors and overall feel around this film, Julian is now sitting in a London jail to protect the truth, and bring corruption into the light.. my goodness people won’t be able to even feel annoyance or roll their eyes anymore because it’ll be considered hostile or threatening to some… It starts with our ‘bad’ traits, then they’ll filter out what we love, want and need… like our lustful natures, what gives us happiness, love, empathy, passion, thoughtfulness, selflessness, mindfulness, and effective constructive communication between parties.. imagine with just a flick of a switch, the nicest most generous person you know could become emotionless, calculated, and ruthless if a person so desired… Oh this great big beautiful world…. Needs all of us from those we dislike to those we admire and hold dear on the pedestal of our hearts… Let the pedestal fall, and see it as it should be.. as your own heart and mind on that pedestal, ignore physical manifestations of what we internalize of society and be your own fan/groupie.. once one works on their own self issues, then maybe we can work up to the adult table and start to discuss the actual political/environmental/sociological and financial issues that are affecting us .. the saying ‘you cannot love another if you do not love yourself..’ holds true here.. only when your own ship is tidy, stocked, and ready to leave harbour, should we involve ourselves so diligently in the affairs of others … At least attempt to get a grasp of the big picture when directly involved, and remember to forgive yourself for your hiccups, life gives us lemons to take after the shot of tequila we thought we needed.. we are provided well for, yet how often do we appreciate and thank our creator or … whomever/whichever deity or entity of energy that got me exactly where I am at this moment… I am blessed and I appreciate all the struggles life has thrown.. and I bless and send love to whoever needs some…

@@YIASEMIDE Not at all. The movie would have been done with or without Benedict. As Julian himself said and praised, Benedict has fought to make the movie as fair as possible. Him in the lead role made it possible to make it better for Julian even if he couldn’t change everything. If you watched the movie you would even see a segment at the end thanks to Benedict telling the audience to look for the truth themselves and to always research. He wasn’t arrogant at all. He was accommodating and tried his best to please Julian and his pov.

Benedict Cumberbatch comes across as a typical naive actor, lost in the melodrama of his own part, and with a powerful but delusional need to justify his own career. Julian Assange is completely justified in his boycotting of the film, but also charitably sympathetic towards Cumberbatch considering that he chose to play the part against Assange's wishes. Clearly for Cumberbatch and Touchstone, despite all the practiced sincerity, money talks louder than principles, honour, or morality.

I'm from Australia, and our Country was entirely aware of every aspect of this event, more than many think (he became more than a dinner table topic in Australia, he was an icon and, now and integral part of our history). Benedict Cumberbatch did a phenomenal job portraying Julian. He was more than on point, and, yes it was slightly dramatised in some areas, but the facts and events that followed were mentioned and highlighted in a very real and respectable manner. Julian is a revolutionary, no doubt, but his quest for the truth left him deranged in thinking that people's thirst for the truth was going to outweigh their desire of revolt and retaliation. He is very intelligent, but seems to evade many areas of society he was not accustomed too in Australia. Power is a dangerous thing, and Julian had a lot of it. I think the movie is brilliant!

Onlywhitekids the movie trivializes the importance and the urgency of all wikileaks discoveries. Especially the most recent leaks. The movie also has dark/sinister undertones surrounding Assange from the very beginning and throughout. Deliberately portraying him as an arrogant, short sighted fanatic odd ball. Driven by self satisfaction and ambition. It is not a true reflection of the man or his intentions. "it is not a good film"

But unfortunately, we don't live in a world where good actors or real heroes receive highest awards or honor. From the very beginning, good people, people who cared for us, got murdered, assassinated, burned alive, poisened, imprisoned, exiled, and tortured.... from Socrates, Jesus, Galileo to Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Kennedy... it seems like it will go on and on and on.

He helped uncovering torture and worse. And as a thanks he's being pschologically tortured with false accusations, media slurs, isolation and solitary confinement for years and years. Right now he's at risk of dying at HM Belmarsh prison in London without ever being convicted. His trial is scheduled to start February 24. How is this reality...? What can be done?

Julian Assange is still holed up in an Ecuadorian embassy like a prisoner, and rightfully so. In order to ensure peace and stability, it is sometimes necessary for governments to conceal types of information from the public. For Julian Assange to maliciously expose hurtful data, he compromised the security of our troops overseas, and I genuinely hope he gives up soon and gets extradited to the United States to face trial for his criminal conduct.

Assange and WikiLeaks are fascinating and relevant. There is awesome material there for a film and nothing really great has been done. I found this movie interesting because, I admire Assange and WikiLeaks but, it could have been much better and honest. It seemed, they tried to make Assange and WikiLeaks look bad. Humans are not perfect. I think they can give fair criticism but, this movie fails to do that. Assange and WikiLeaks fight for us, so we don't lose freedom to corrupt, powerful forces. They are heros and deserve honor.

I don't think the production of the movie would have been canceled if Benedict Cumberbatch refused to play Julian Assange's part. I'm actually glad that he did do it because I'm sure as far as an actors power over the script goes, Cumberbatch did his best to present an accurate image. It is obvious that he sees Assange as a hero. Wouldn't it be better if they focused on how Assange wasn't informed officially about it and only found out when Cumberbatch emailed him about the part?

I think the movie celebrates the need for institutional transparency; broadcasters, not " yellow" journalism, used to perform this function, as I as a young child learned about the Viet Nam war and protests on national tv. However, big business and big government began controlling the ethics of story tellers. This is no longer acceptable, of course, it never was. We are a society, globally of individuals, each having their own experiences, their own " truths". But if we enable every opinion to be heard, freely and without constraint, we offer encouragement to every person to listen to another .

i admire juian's accomplishments, he has done the world great service. but ecuador is about to chuck him out, uk will pass him to the cia 'black flight' and next stop guantanamo. in retrospect, perhaps he wishes he had remained undercover, as those two swedish groupies have cost him his freedom already, and soon his life. to any considering emulating ja's service, remember this: the bad guys use real bullets, and often own the police.

I think Assange and Wikileaks are great except for their coverage on Russian corruption. But I know why he carefully avoids showing Russian government criminality (he's basically backed into a corner as they are his benefactor). Same goes for Snowden. I think they're both great and courageous individuals but I also know who they're careful not to criticize.

I'm sorry, Julian Assange, but I love "The Fifth Estate". I think it is a amazing movie, even if I'm aware that it can be as much facts than fiction. I think Assange looked like the hero of this movie.

I think Cumberbatch done a great job... Any biography of a famous person is going to attract criticism I don't really know why Assange is so pissed anyway... 70% of the film is clearly pro-Wikileaks and quite sympathetic to him although it does highlight tensions with his colleagues and an arguably egotistical persona

Julian Assange is no hero, in fact he is quite the reverse. He's just a self-serving, publicity seeking individual who has put the lives of many people at risk by placing a mass of information into the public domain. I am all in favour of freedom of information, but there are limits, certain things should not be in the public domain. It is also interesting to note how deafening the silence from his native Australia has been throughout this case. Assange is also an arrogant individual who seems to think he is above the law, and as for his attempts to dodge extradition to Sweden to answer sexual assault charges, if he's innocent of these charges like he says he is, then why is he trying so hard to avoid being sent there to face trial? His charade of staying inside the Ecuadorian Embassy has also cost taxpayers £7 million in policing and other costs, so for a variety of reasons, the sooner he is out of that Embassy on a plane out of here, the better.
