A year later in July of '99 in Pontiac, Michigan I had a nearly identical experience. After the show I respectfully approached him to shake his hand and thank him. I never intended to mention his father other than to thank him for a great show and say I felt badly that he was John's son because I could only imagine what a hindrance that must have been when he was so incredibly talented on his own. He was so humble and warm and genuine and every time I thought our conversation was over he'd re-engage me on another topic. My son was with me and was going the next morning to be inducted in to the air force and said he wanted to buy some CDs to take with him before they closed down the stand and as my son walked away he asked Jools if he'd sign them and Jools said "Absolutely". We continued our conversation about every subject imaginable including John, Yoko, the Beatles, Music, photography, everything. After about an hour and a half we had to excuse ourselves because my son had to be up quite early. After we parted we were almost to the exit when my son remembered about having Jools sign his CDs and as he turned to see if Jools was still around and Jools was about fifteen feet away coming towards us with a Sharpie in his hand and said: "you wanted me to sign those,. didn't you?" If I didn't know better I'd have thought that Julian wanted to continue talking with us because he stuck around for another fifteen minutes until his people (Manager?) took him away Not only was he one of the most talented performers I've ever seen, he was the warmest, nicest, most humble, most genuine, intelligent, most engaging people I've ever met. I've met some pretty lofty people but hands down, Julian Lennon is my favorite.

When I met Julian after his Sydney show in 1998 I told him that when I bought the album and read this track I thought he did a cover of the Badfinger track....he then extended his hand and shook mine to say that he loved that Badfinger classic. We then spoke for another hour or so and he was an absolute gentleman. Spoke like he had known me for years. A definite musical bond and I respected him by never mentioning his dad like every other idiot that interrupted our time together.

I know Julian has talked about fatherhood and gone back and forth about it. However, listening to him speak in so many interviews we find him to be a sensitive, intuitive, kind and compassionate man. If he so chose to become a father someday, I have no doubt we would be a wonderful one. Besides the other attributes that I have previously mentioned, let me add one more, outstanding talent. Julian's photographs are incredible, they take you away to another place. Thank you Julian....

The cool thing is we aren't getting johns songs through Julian, we are getting Julian's songs. Obviously his dad was very talented and has admittedly had a big impact on him which is great, and I am huge beatles fan.. But I am a huge Julian fan too, and he sits in a whole other category for me apart from his dad. He in his own right has some of the most beautiful songs. He does have a bit of his father in him, of course, that is how genetics work, but his mother is in him too and her kindness and gentleness has had just as big of an impact on how Julian writes. You can hear it in his music. Everyone is impacted by someone, and there is not a thing wrong with that, but I also know Julian has his own sound and lyrics, and I find his music to be some of the very best out there today. Lots of love everyone! (: (p.s. This song is one of my favorites... Love it!)

He also is quite the photographer and philanthropist. Google White Feather Foundation, he is the founder. They help with humanitarian aid in third world countries, also building drinking wells in countries where people usually have to walk miles for water. He talks the talk and walks the walk. I love this man.

Lisa Jean actually, Julian wrote this song about a girlfriend he was really missing at the time and then decided to turn it into a song about a soldier missing his love. :) It was cowritten with Mark Spiro. Actually, Julian wrote or co wrote all of the songs on the album photograph smile. He is a very talented song writer himself. One of the best in my opinion.

Yup. The way his mum is written out is fucking ridiculous. She raised him. She was his biggest influence on who he was as a person, though he clearly inherits John's talent.

Julian is now a Photographic Journalist. He is also a philanthropist. He is the founder of the White Feather foundation. In 2009 Julian tracked down his childhood girlfriend Lucy (In The Sky With Diamonds) O'Donnell. Lucy Vodden was suffering from lupus and died shortly after in September 2009. Julian's friend James Scott Cook had written a song about his grandmother called Lucy. She has also died of Lupus. Julian recorded the song as a charity single with a share of the proceeds going to the Lupus Foundation Of America. As an aside, John Lennon was involved with charity work for UNICEF.
