I will say before night falls is one of my fabs movie all times, but after watching this interview I understood many things, very compelling to see Snchabel talking about Arenas, I think he really got his essence in this movie and what can I say about Bardem, his best performance so far in all his career. Beautiful, compelling, deep, Im gonna fucking watched again

I'm amazed at how little Schnabel knew of Arenas prior to making the film, and how little Rose seems to know despite interviewing him on PBS. It really speaks to the pseudointellectual method of Rose prior to his righteous metoo'ing-- he was a doddering dumbass who simply flattered his guests. Schnabel clearly doesn't know or even read Spanish-- how can he have the nerve to direct a film about a legend of Spanish letters? I'm amazed there was no outcry about this at the time... yeesh.

well i totally disagree on what you said, Scnnabel clearly seems to understand the problematics of cuba and got in touch with cuba and cubans to tell the history. Rose flattering his guest? that was a great interview with good questions, nothing on the flattering side
