I know how you feel about the protected 18650s, I've only received them with products 3 times but twice the chargers and once the product it's self didn't fit the extended cell. Great work there seller.

To be fair, 18650 does define the size of the cell and the protected cells fall outside that size definition.

That is a major flaw. It should have specs for 18650-18700. Protected cells are almost always in 67 to 70mm range in lenght. Protected cells of no more than 65mm lenght are very hard to find. (I have one device needing such and it is pain to get replacement cells!) Using a 65mm specification lengh is for any product is just plain stupid, especially if there are multiple cells in series.

It would be interesting to check if there is the ST6210 IC chip to detect negative delta Voltage termination for NiMh Batteries. It would be a pity if it does not terminate NiMh kindly! If not, it would be a fancy expensive colorful display charger.

Great video as usual Julian. I don't think this charger is for me. I find it odd that it will only charge two cells and you cant use protected ones; this really limits who might benefit from using it.

Maybe the Eneloop-mode for NI-MH also doesn't apply trickle charging after the end of charge, in addition to the higher current, which would be a good thing for LSD cells.

It's probably deliberate that it can't take protected cells. It would upset the charge algorithm and couldn’t measure the internal resistance.

Would be interesting to see you review the discharge, analysis, cycle, storage, and activation modes... it appears to be quite a bit more than just a simple charger (mind you - so it should be for the $80 price tag...)

I just got one. I find that the feet on it aren't quite tall enough for the fan--which intakes air through the bottom--to work effectively.

Perhaps you could make an adapter to charge the longer batteries. You might start with a piece of wooden dowel that is the correct length and then put some contact metal on each end that sticks up far enough. Then put the longer batteries between those.

I like all the features but the lack of support for protected 18650s and only charge 2 18650 at a time is really a deal breaker to me. I wished ISDT release a revision or version with sliding battery contacf and support for newer and furure standard 20700 and 21700 batteries.

Great review Julian. How many AAAs does it take (markings in the bay seemed to imply only 2)? If you change a charging rate (current) for a particular size and chemistry, is this retained in memory so that if you set it back to "Auto" charge ... the charging rate is what you specified (for that particular size and chemistry combination)?

could you please check is there is continuity between the two posetive poles and between the two negative poles on the 18650 side? tricky to deskribe, but what i mean is messure between negative and negative, not from posetive to negative. allso could you check if the reverse polarity works if there allready is a batterie in the charger? i am thinking of using this charger as a base for a little project i have in mind, would be nice to know if it was up for it before i buy it! 😊

Nice display en funktions, for the rest is this charger uninteresting. I have many protected 18650 batteries. I like The Opus or Powerfocus BT-C3100 this can charge different batteries as. AA, AAA, 18650,17670,18490,17500,17335,16340,14500,10440. The charger is temporarily out of use the fan 25x25x7mm is worn out and make a lot off noise. I have ordered 2 new ones.

Slikx666 that's what the activation option in the menu is for it will send a very low voltage into the battery until the battery is at a voltage high enough to charge correctly.

You can do that from a bench PSU or any current limited source that provides up to around 3 volts with 100 mA or so. Basically a resistor in series with a power source would work even. Not really worth paying $60 for that.

I never gotten anything from bang good. I do need a good cheaper charger discharger capacity checker . internal resistance and all that. I need to go through about 300 18650's in about a week! to match them in groups for a 7,s bank. this charger seems to be a bit more bells and whistles than I am looking for. it sure is loud!

James stranger the opus c3100 seems to have become the standard unit for processing lots of cells. Four slots and an automated test which determines capacity.

Steve Cooper an activation charge is a charging method at low current to activate a cells chemistry The weird thing is, I only know this method is used in dry cell battery's Or AGM batterys where you add the electrolyte when you want to use it.. This will prevent the battery from going bad when filled and stored for a long period of time... The battery type is PB.. Don't think this charger can charge that to be honest :P

Probably reviving a lithium battery if the voltage is all the way down. If The voltage is below 3 volts or so you have to charge it at a very low current if you want it to stay alive. Maybe 0.1A or even less for an 18650, something like that. I believe thats what they mean by that. I think thats usually called "pre-charge phase" though. You kinda just cap the current at a very low level and charge it to a point at which it should be able to charge normally again(maybe 3 or 3.3 volts).
