I think the house was Bobby's because we know Alex's parents are homophobic and having a guy friend to stay under the same roof definitely wouldn't have gone over well. This actually makes it more heartbreaking because imagine trusting someone, not only because they are your band mate, but also the person who showed you kindness and hospitality during your most vulnerable time, betraying that trust by stealing the most important thing to you and about you. After you died no less, they took advantage of your death to make profit.
