Sad, sad, day for all her fans all over the world, and certainly devastating for her, when she lost that most beautiful voice. But she proved what a great person she was when she picked herself up, dusted herself off & started all over again. I love you, Julie Andrews.

I too was saddened when J.A. was forced to retire from singing, but even if she hadn't had that botched throat surgery, she might still not be able to sing like she used to; after all, she's in her eighties.

actually, she's been around since the 1950s when she starred in a 1957 version of Cinderella for TV (which was seen by more people at that time than any other TV broadcast, up to that point), as well as the 1956 Broadway hit of My Fair Lady.

This woman. I love her so much. When I was a Freshman in high school, she was directing 'The Boyfriend' (the first broadway show she was ever in, fun fact!) across the street from our school. She had a press conference/they were dedicating the street to her for her duration of her stay type of thing so our ENTIRE CLASS played hookie and went to see her. I was up close enough to where she was standing that when I waved to her, SHE WAVED BACK! Like-highlight of my life right there.

One can hear rough edges to her speaking voice one never heard before. Not only the operation, but age, I guess. If she’d been 100% lucky, she’d not have had an unhappy childhood, she’d not have been passed over for both My Fair Lady and Camelot, both of which were as if written w her (& her voice) in mind. But she was certainly tough, determined & incredibly gifted... & knew to take advantage of these character qualities.
