Nice of you to be share so much information. One thing I never see designers address is ceiling fans and lighting. Doesn't make sense for us to have air conditioning when there's only a couple of months of hot weather. Oh well.

Hi Julie, for our entry foyer we have purchase a thread ceiling pendant and need matching wall scones for the same. The ceiling pendant has a wooden holder and threads pastel colors - yellow, green and red. The wall scones are placed on either sides of a 7 feet tall mirror with teak wood frame mounted on the wall.

I LOVE these light fixtures! Thank you for putting this together! I just heard you say you put another link for those of us who are renovating. I, for one, really appreciate this❣️ I’m trying to find light fixtures for my house that’s a 1960’s ranch, that’s been upgraded in a Craftsman style, with a gorgeous front porch, with a ceiling fan,that everyone in my neighborhood loves and is copying! Ugh! Lol! It was actually used in a couple of Volkswagen commercials as the “quintessential American house”. I’m having a hard time with the limited interior space and my Pottery Barn-type furniture and lighting, and I don’t want to totally lose the Craftsman look. I’m putting a first-floor laundry/ entryway room inside my garage, which also leads out to a hot tub area, so I’m also looking for 3 lights for that room that would be functional, but attractive. I’m thinking of hiring an interior decorator for a few places in my house. Do they exist on a budget? Also, do you do any outdoor patio and pergola work? I tore down the fence around my hot tub because the entire yard already has a privacy fence and I couldn’t see the beautiful yard. Now I’m stuck! 🤔 Thank you for reading my novel❣️

I love black on white, it’s a classic and glamorous look. If you have a lovely chandelier in the dining area along with recessed lighting, the mirrors may be too much. I would instead opt for a beautiful Venetian plaster ceiling to coordinate with your Italianate aesthetic

Hi Julie. I love your channel! I found the area rug and window treatment videos super helpful! My husband and I recently bought our first home and I am really struggling to design a functional office space. I have been struggling to figure out the best desk that can accommodate two large monitors, a keyboard, and have room for me to put other decorative items, and have it look sophisticated and not like a gamer's room. The way you have your office set up in this video is very inspiring. Most pictures on Pinterest includes beautiful desks with no monitors or actual objects needed to make it functional so it was not very helpful. Recently I transferred my dining table set to my family room, and the lounge sofa to the dining area. It works just fine. I wouldn't go for anything that hangs too low since you don't want people's heads touching the fixture, especially if you're moving a dining space to a living room and vice versa. Also, make sure the fixture is centered to your setup. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

I have a space in my living room that is 12x10 and ceiling through out is 7.75 foot ceiling - MCM/boho interior with lots of plants. I saw a shell chandelier that I am in love with. It has a 30”D but my tallest furniture in the room is 25”H sofa. Wondering if I can pull it off with two 80x44 floor mirrors located about 7 feet away from the sitting area. - Anthro

It’s not the diameter of the chandelier, but the height you should worry about. If you’re not walking underneath it and there’s a table instead, it will work. Otherwise, it will hang too low

My husband and I are remodeling our 28 year old house in Arizona and I have been overwhelmed with how and where to start. Your videos have been very helpful! We have very high vaulted ceilings and every room except the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms have ceiling fans; most with lights as part of the fan. My husband thinks that we have to have fans because of the Arizona heat (and they do help keep the house comfortable). But are there stylish ceiling fans? Thanks for all the wonderful info!

There definitely are some stylish ceiling fans on the market Cynthia. Look for ones without lighting and try to install recessed lights around the fan and layer with wall sconces if you can. I’ll try to make a video around this topic 👍🏻

Your videos have been incredibly helpful as we are renovating our 20 year old home, adding a large island to our kitchen. I'm struggling on what lighting to hang over it. I'm not a big fan of pendant lights, and would rather have one linear light but can't find any guidance on what size that single light should be. Our island will be 3' by 9' including a 3' breakfast bar at the end of the island, but our ceilings are only 8'. Would one light work? How big does it need to be? Or am I limited to doing pendant lights because of the island size? Any input you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

That depends on the size of the fixture, but 3 pendants are a good rule of thumb for that size island. Or a long, linear chandelier would be fabulous too! Go bold Regina, you won’t regret it! 🙌🏻

Hello Julie Khuu, I need to pick out lighting for a new build. I was thinking of using brass in kitchen, including the lighting. THere is a wall between my kithen/dining room and two openings on each side, one that brings you into the living room and the other the hallway that takes you to the entryway or just outside the livingroom area. Hi Julie- my house is at least 20 years old. I am currently working on updating it so that it has more of a modern look. I have the builder’s grade medium size boob lights in various places that I want to replace. There are 4 in my narrow hallway, 1 in the master bath above the toilet, 1 in the master bed closet, 1 in the kitchen spice closet, 1 in the washroom. All of these areas have the 8 foot ceilings. While I plan to change them all, I would like to change the ones in the hallway immediately. Will you direct me to some lights that you think would be modern to contemporary that would look great in a narrow hallway with 8 foot ceiling and where they can be purchased? Your videos are very interesting and helpful. But in the case of lighting I was hoping to find some help for a home I would imagine most of us have across the US., which is built in in the 60’s or 70’s and more traditional. Not the beautiful California style homes in your lovely examples. How do I UPGRADE lighting in a traditional setting, 8’ foot ceilings? I have an eclectic esthetic I suppose and I’m trying to avoid it looking dowdy. I’m decoratively paralyzed 😭.

I don’t think the style of home should dictate the fixtures. I believe your personal style will determine the overall look of the space. My home is a mid-century ranch style, but my preference is not mid-century modern. Source what you love! For low ceilings, try flush mount fixtures. If suspended over a table, you can specify a pendant Rosella ☺️
