Many of you ask, "why would Ringo sell such a personal gift from a fellow beatle?" Because he knows he will die soon because of his age (as we all do), and he knew it would go to someone capable of taking care of it and sharing it with the world. Many of us musicians are getting old, and we start to worry about our cherished instruments as we age... we want them in the right hands before we die! The money received can still exist in the family and be invested, or spent by us in our last few years.

Couldn’t agree more you have Olivia buying back George’s guitars ,Yoko owns John’s ,Julian buying his dads stuff and Ringo sells a guitar John gave him if he doesn’t want it anymore give it to Julian or Sean ,as you wrote kind of sad .

@Wise and Free Really, that is strange. It doesn't really make sense. If it has his name on it, it should be his belongings being auctioned off, even though not his auction. Whose ever estate it is should be the name of the auction which would change with every auction, not he company's name.

Perhaps when you knew the guy as closely as two people who have toured in a band (long before they were famous, they lived in very close quarters), you just think of it as one of Johns guitars, not some sacred item.

I played a black Les Paul that Marc Bolan gave to Ringo when I knew Zak back in the early 80's. It turned out to be an early gold top that had been re sprayed at some point. I wonder what happened to that one.

They could at least once mention the actual model number of the guitar (it's a Model 325, btw). The Rose-Morris company was the UK importer and distributor of Rickenbacker guitars in the 60's & 70's.

John Lennon played two 325s, a 1958 that he bought in Hamburg and the one that Mr hall gave him on the first beatle tour in 1964 . He never played the rose Morris model that is presented here, it was an export version of the 325 with traditional f hole.

This is DE519, a Rickenbacker 1996. Lennon played it during Beatle Christmas shows in 1964 whilst his regular 325 was being repaired.

Ringo's winding up his financial life. Same with Bill Wyman. This stuff will be very hard to value when the estate is dispersed. A lot of very rich people set up irrevocable trusts where they place most of their money for heirs over the next 70 years (at least in U.S.)

"All You Need Is Cash" (what the fuck is with some people? You 'buy' something...and somehow by 'ethereal osmosis' you are now 'somebody?') I'd buy this guitar and then give it back to Richie where it belongs...or to one of his kids if it hurts him to see it around. (it never ceases to completely baffle me what 'rich people want'...when I think of how many bikes/shoes/eye-glasses/clothes/lap-tops/etc. I could buy for kids who need things so when I go to sleep at least I would have something nice to think about 'what I did with all that fucking money I have')
