Love your enthusiasm! The single little blue floral tea cup you got is from a pattern sold as shopping rewards at grocery chains like Kroger in the early 90s. Both my mother and mother-in-law had collected the entire set- and they collected at 2 different chains and states! Super popular. I loved it so much that I kept them after they passed. ❤️ I think the scalloped wire basket is a boiling basket.

we used to use the iron basket at the campsite to wash lettuce. it is foldable (hence the camping site) and you can twirl the washed lettuce with your arms. then the water splashes flew in all directions. you can also fold the handles all the way down and then you can put the basket on the handles

My mom had a wire basket like the one you showed with handles. She used it in a larger pot to fry French fries. The oil was in the larger pot. When the fries were done she would pull the handle basket out and wouldn’t have to deal with dipping them out of the grease.
@cheryldavis87762 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the wire basket with handles could be used to drain a head of lettuce --sort of like a salad spinner... Also could be used as a container when gathering eggs... I like the idea of using it in a deep fat fryer, too... All in all a pretty handy and diverse little basket!

I love all the emboridered linens. They look old like 20s to 40s. I use small ones to either add collar points or pockets when I use mens shirts or pillow cases to make little girl dresses. Now that I grow my own lavender I use some to put lavendar in. Larger white hankies I have made angels from them. Stuff and tie head.Glue lace bow for wings. Glue bits of lace doiles at bottom corners. You tie knots at side points to make hands.

Another interesting haul at your bins! I believe both of the pottery pieces were student-made with the blue pinch pot vessel most likely being made by an elementary student while the thumbprint piece definitely made by someone younger...take a closer look where the base meets the side/wall for a flaw I saw on camera. The wire basket is similar to one my mother used when canning tomatoes. She would fill the basket and dip it in a boiling pot of water for a few minutes to split the skin. It was easy to lift out all at once to a sink of cold water so we could remove it. Since I had a smaller hand, my job was to pack the tomatoes in the jar. A fond memory.

The basket with handles I knew in the late 70s, early 80s as a rinsing basket for veggies, lettuce then you fold the handles to stand and let it drain. I have a folding egg basket a lot older like 40s but its not made the same and doesnt have handles that stand.
