Love Miss Prowse...left us way too soon. Great talent and oh those gams!!! A friend worked backstage in a production where Miss Prowse starred..later in her career...saw her do a quick change in the wings...stripped down to nothing. He told me she was STUNNING!

When Elvis Presley worked with Juliet Prowse on "G.I. Blues" (1960), he reportedly described his leggy co-star as having "a body that could make a bishop stamp his foot through a stained-glass window." (A line he borrowed and somewhat paraphrased from Raymond Chandler.)

I just saw a clip of Prowse dancing in the "Night of 100 Stars-Red Shoes" sequence I think from 1985; those kicks of hers were phenomenal.

Yes, that was her voice...pre-recorded for clarity and less breathiness during the dance performance, which is still done today in most cases. And those LEGS...my, my, my, MY!!!

I really admired her.. When is was on London in Sweet Charity. She came on television in a show called Sunday Night at the London Palladium, her dancing was superb..

Right around 3:15 Juliet loses her right arm strap and nearly the top on that side, but misses nary a beat. The show must go ON. One of my all-time faves.

To make it big in Vegas you had to have a singing voice and personality, like Mitzi Gaynor and Ann-Margret who were the very biggest female stars in Las Vegas,( Mitzi was so big they gave her a percentage of the casino) along with Cher who came along later. Great dancers like Cyd Charisse had there voices dubbed in films, something that was not done on stage, her career was virtually finished.

There were 4 different songs in that dance - it started with Basin St. Blues, then Way Down Yonder In New Orleans, then That's A Plenty and also Jada. I'm 99% sure it was arranged by Hollywood clarinetist Heinie Beau who often arranged for Paul Weston, Red Nichols and movie like The Five Pennies, Gene Krupa Story, etc.

Thanks for naming all four tunes!!

Either there is no talent like this any more or the media bug whigs have become lazy and they don't want true talent because it cost too much!Glad I was born in the 60s I saw it all:)

@@marilynwillett804 no no dear I meant her representing a southern belle in her skit, her actions and gestures just scream southern belle. Just perfect she was representing new orleans the queen city of the south she had to act the part.

If that's her own recorded singing voice, that's terrific. Wouldn't it be great if there was a Hollywood Palace weekly TV show now? Of course, that's impossible. There isn't enough genuine talent around now for a weekly variety show.
@marvel5able8 жыл бұрын
Not enough genuine talent for a decennial variety show.
@bigred84326 жыл бұрын
There is plenty of genuine talent around at the present, the difference is that the overall public taste has changed and so those sorts of talents often go uncelebrated. In the musical theatre world there are some ultra talented people but they aren’t faces or names recognised beyond and therefore aren’t going to headline a tv variety show.
@heru-deshet3596 жыл бұрын
American taste has gone mediocre in music and entertainment. They admire someone who can warble notes from low to high without any meaning, look for the next celebrity that's coming out of the closet, etc. Just crap.

Juliet is super but I'm afraid Cyd owns this franchise.
@gloria-sw1iw6 жыл бұрын
Cyd was one of the greatest dancers in hollywood history, altho like Juliet she was a wooden actress and lacked personality, Cyd's singing voice was dubbed in films and when here film career finished it virtually ended her career
