A little secret I learned about cleaning the finished product.... I use oil (olive or veg. oil).. it really does a good job. As far as 'glass on glass'..I've done a few projects with 'anderson' windows... you know the double pane glass.I have do a glass mosaic on the inside of the double pane and have the guy who's making my door or window use a clear piece to sandwich my glass image on the inside....it really comes out good.

I have done many glass on glass mosaics with stain glass on vases. One thing that has happened to me on rare occasions before grouting I always check my glass very carefully. The tension of the glue drying is enough force to occasionally or rarely crack a piece of glass creating a grout line that you may not want. Easy fix before grouting.

Hi Jan, WOW!, I've never experienced this. I'm sorry to hear this happened. Gah, what a gut punch after all that work on your piece. One thing I try to do is break the glue tension between pieces by running a toothpick or a mosaic pick through it. I realize it's tedious, but sometimes I accidentally go a little heavy on the glue. I also allow mosaic pieces to dry/cure in a cool place and out of direct sunlight

I'm new to your channel; just came across your videos. I love your videos. You help me so much with your tips and techniques. Even though I've been creating for many years, you can never learn too much. Everyone has a different way that works best for them. I'm always learning. I've been creating stained glass for many years and decided that I wanted to use up the scrap. Then came mosaics. I love it. I've even got my husband into creating as well. We moved across the country a few years years ago and moved our home studio and all of our supplies, which is way, way too much. Glass is also Sooo heavy. Lol. I love glass on glass mosaics also. I've created many. I love creating glass on glass utilizing old, antique windows. Please keep making videos. I love watching and learning. ❤

Hi Julie. I, too, am new to your channel and I believe I've watched almost every one of your videos that I could find. I'm only just starting in this craft. I haven't made anything yet as I'm still in the process of amassing all the supplies, tools, etc. needed for my planned project - a mosaic bird bath. I saw your joy with your new handheld vacuum and I wonder if you would share the make and model. I've looked on Amazon but can't seem to find one that resembles the one you have. BTW, I'm awestruck by your incredible knowledge of this art and your willingness to share it with us. Thank you!

I really enjoy your videos, thank you for making them. I have been mosaicing for years and I see everything I make as an experiment, something to learn from. I learn more from watching your process. I started a stained glass piece and used silicone (Wellbond is difficult and expensive to source here) on one of the 4 sides. Of course I have lots of little bubbles and I have some practising to do. I am pleased that you did a video on mesh and I wonder if you have done one on curved surfaces? I have a mannequin (ahem) or 2 waiting here. I will continue tuning in and enjoying your work!
@JulieWeilbacher

Hi Claire! Thanks for your kind words, and for watching! It's great to hear you're enjoying the videos. I agree 100% with you. As they say, no 2 mosaic pieces of art are the same, and that includes the making. We should consider ourselves fortunate and lucky to learn something with every mosaic we create. That means we're getting 'better' and learning. What a gift! Yes, silicone can be pesky. I used it a lot years ago. As for the mesh on a curved surface, it can work really well....especially on a mannequin. It would be a real time saver for you to work on a horizontal surface and then adhere a larger tiled area to your substrate. Having said that, some curved surfaces can be tricky for mesh. You just want to watch that you don't lose or open-up your groutline in those areas making it look obvious that you've used mesh. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!

An inspiring video! Because of it, I created some stained glass jars (sides and bottom) which I grouted. I wired some posts to make backyard lights. I am putting the LED lights through the jar lid and they will be upside down in the elements. I am wonering if it would be better to simply seal the grout or to dip them in clear acryllic to seal them better? I am imagining that once they are outside for a while the grout may crack and/or get mossy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Claudia! I LOVE this use of glass on glass!! What a fun project! It sounds beautiful. I wouldn't NOT pour resin over them. It won't weather well outdoors. For one thing the UV rays will yellow the resin. Instead, seal your grout really well. It might take a couple coats. This video on sealing mosaic might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3vUi4hrqsiAlc0. Thank you for all your videos I enjoy watching and learning different techniques from you. However I have a question I recently made a vote of candle similar to the one you did a tutorial on I thought I was doing everything right I used Weldbond to attach all of my glass pieces waited for it to dry and even did a Weldbond wash. However, after waiting a week for that to completely dry when I grouted the piece I still ended up with grout bleed what did I do wrong? How can I avoid this in the future.
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joan! Thanks for watching. Great to hear you're enjoying my videos. Ugh, the ol' grout bleed. A Weldbond wash. Hhhmmmm, I'm not familiar with that. I will say that grout bleed can happen if you don't get the entire surface area of each piece of tessera covered.....as opposed to just putting enough glue on the surface of the tessera so that it sticks down. I use a wood craft stick to make sure I thoroughly cover the surface of each piece. I also like to run a toothpick through the Weldbond on the substrate surface to avoid any glass breakage during curing, and it also helps things dry a little quicker. Hope this helps. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌

Hi Julie, I am knew at this glass on glass so I hope my question is not stupid. I purchased an old farm window. I would like to use moasic stain glass. My question is do I tile only one side because when I hang it both sides will be visible. I hope this makes sense.
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Debra! There are no stupid questions.🤓 You're correct that you'll only tile one side of the glass....and that's the side that's facing you. That's not to say you couldn't tile both sides....but woah! that would be a challenge matching things up unless you're working from a pattern. Have fun with it! Glass on glass mosaics are gorgeous! In the video in which you tile a glass Starbucks bottle, you use Lexel for the adhesive. For this hurricane lamp vase, you use Weldbond. Both projects are on curved surfaces. In what circumstances do you use Lexel and when do you prefer Weldbond when doing glass on glass mosaics?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher Жыл бұрын
Hi Ava! GREAT question!🔥 I used Weldbond on the hurricane lamp/vase because I needed an adhesive that dries clear, but would allow a little extra time for wiggle room with fitting in the stained glass strips. In the case of the Starbucks bottle, I used Lexel because I didn't need any wiggle room with the tesserae because the design was more flexible. If needed, I could grind off an edge or whatever from the tesserae and it wouldn't be noticeable. I couldn't do that as easily with the hurricane lamp without it looking more obvious. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Hi Gayla! Yes, this glue dries clear. As for cutting straight lines....I line up my glass cutter with a non-skid ruler and push or pull the cutter across the surface of the glass. All of the tools that I use are listed below the video in the description. Practice and take your time. Cutting glass is tricky but you'll get it. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Hi Speedmom! This is such a fun GOG project! You'll want to play around with the width and cut some sample pieces to make sure they're small enough to 'hug' the substrate and not be too big that they stick out.....that is, if you're tiling on a curved surface. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
