This fight could have easily been scored a draw. As laporte did do enough to get the slight edge over Chavez.but Chavez also did enough to win it. I am boricua and love Chavez. J C Chavez Sr. is truly one of the truest best fighter ever. I guess he had t most championship fights than any other fighters n beat a number of solid Olympic Champs. Having a limited amateur experience indeed but a very solid text book skillset, he relied so much on his resilient pressure from round to round n eventually beat his opponents. His love for boxing which he expressed in his hard training regimen is now copied by Canello Alvarez.

Es ya una pena que dan aquellos que en su fanatismo todavía siguen enamorados de la idea de que el gran campeón Sal Sánchez era mejor que JC Chavez, primero Sal S era 3 años mayor de JC Chavez, Sal Sánchez fue primero campeón en el año 1980, JC Chavez en 1981 estaba en su pela 12 de manera profesional y Sal S ya era campeón, este último fallece en la madurez de su boxeo, viéndose potente, fuerte y preciso, desafortunadamente Sal S. ya no pudo probar más nada, el que hubiera pasado en un enfrentamiento con Julio Cesar Chávez en sus inicios, probablemente sería una gran pelea con el triunfo de Sal S. pero decir que Sal S. I think the word hate gets throws around alot. THis fight was close, i thought Laporte got the close win. My favorite fighters are Leonard and Hagler, but if i had to say something critical about them and than i would say it.Leonard got the 10 ounce gloves, big ring, and 12 rds intead of 15,so he beat Hagler in the negotiations. Hagler fought like a fool instead of as a souhtpaw and i thought loss the early rounds.Trinidad i felt deserved a draw against DLH, DLH got atleast 6 of the 1st 8 rds

@KubrickLives Also, JCC's skills had LONG been "perfected",whatever that means. Perfection in boxing doesn't exist my friend. Anyway, JCC was at his peak by '88 for sure, but it was basically the following year that marks an actual diminishing of his skills. You got it the exact opposite. Around 1990,especially after Taylor,JCC stopped being the master technician that we saw in the '80's and began to come straight at the next generation showing them no respect at all.
