Johnny Mathis is the version I remember. Albert hammond and other artists never really made an impression on me with this song. Wasn’t one of my favorite songs anyway, until I heard this version. In Julio’s quiet rendition, you can just about hear the desperation of him needing to get there. Listen to the recording of it as well, as this is live, and there are slight variations. Really, I never knew knew that 99 Miles from L.A. could be so moving and so meaningful. But that is the genius of Julio Iglesias: it’s like he’s a vocal minimalist, but so much feelings put into every word with that unique voice. I never heard of telephone poles sounding so romantic as in his version! Just the best rendition out there!❤🎉 After being absent from his music due to work, and more work in my life, I nowadays have time to revisit singers I admired so much and now, this is one of the songs I can’t stop listening to! It’s like a new world of music is opened up to me, because being away, I never realize he recorded so many of songs that he has. What an absolute joy to rediscover Julio! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕

Lovely memory. I was stationed at CamPen in the early 80s and loved hearing it when driving down the freeway to San Diego. Sadly my marriage ended after 9 years, but I still have my song and my memories and it's all good :)

He is the most romantic Singer. I have ever heard you just melt. Mario LAnza right up there but he is opera hes different. He Makes me cry. My father I heard loved opera but he was killed when I was 11 so my first partner was Italian. And he told me to turn this shown on the great Caruso well that was it. I was a puddle of crying and then when I became a grandmother my youngest grandson. I wish I would just try and Sharm. I'll cause he wanted to see something that he couldn't see at home so II turned it there but the first guy that was on was an. Opera singer a singing Celeste Aida.
