Fun fact: Julius Caesars last words were "not you as well brutus"
@Raeker8 ай бұрын
Not entirely true - that wording comes from Shakespeare. It was alleged that Julius said "You too, my child" however there is no direct source confirming that this was actually said. See here, from the wikipedia page for 'The Twelve Ceasars': _"Suetonius says that others have claimed that Caesar reproached the conspirator Brutus, saying "You too, my child?" (καὶ σὺ τέκνον, kai su, teknon). This specific wording varies slightly from the more famous quote, "Even you, Brutus?" (et tu, Brute) from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. However, Suetonius himself asserts that Caesar said nothing, apart from a single groan, as he was being stabbed. Instead Suetonius reports that Caesar exclaimed, "Why, this is violence!" as the attack began."_

Apart from maybe Brutus, who was the son of his favourite mistress, pretty much all of the conspirators were his political ennemies XD A bigger betrayal for Caesar was when Labienus, his right-hand man and personal friend refused to obey him after he marched on Rome, and joined the ranks of Pompey. It's also supposed that Vercingetorix, the great leader of the Gaul rebellion that Caesar had to defeat after conquering the Gauls, was a personal friend of his ^^ Caesar was betrayed multiple times, the Ides of March were not really a betrayal, it was just a conspiracy from his ennemies ^^
