4:18 Cremation site: Arch of Titus Temple of Vesta
Julius Caesar, the Roman dictator, was assassinated on March 15th, 44 BC. The assassination occurred in the Theatre of Pompey in Rome, where Caesar had gone to attend a meeting of the Senate.
The group of assassins, led by Gaius Cassius Longinus and Marcus Brutus, were a group of senators who opposed Caesar's increasing power and suspected him of wanting to make himself king. They stabbed Julius Caesar over 60 times, with Caesar trying to defend himself but to no avail. Caesar died on the spot, and his death marked the end of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire.
The assassins believed that by killing Caesar they would restore the Roman Republic, but their plan backfired and it led to civil war, as many of Caesar's followers, such as Mark Antony, wanted to avenge his death. The event also influenced literature, plays like Shakespeare's Julius Caesar was written with the assassination and its aftermath as the central point of the play.

Don't be ashamed, it's not your fault. It's those strange people of the "Middle Ages", who equally strangely had no value for legendary historical buildings, despite valuing the equivalent legendary historical artifacts. Had they been like you, and tried to preserve their heritage, so much more of Ancient Rome would now be preserved. At least, now there are people like yourself who will stand up to preserve the Italian peoples heritage.

1:43 I’d say the spot the Roman Empire would have risen. If Caesar wasn’t killed, the Roman Empire would have risen under his adopted son, Octavian (who later became Emperor August.) *THAT* one spot, *THAT* one location is *WHAT* set the events into motion. Julius Caesar assassinated by senators who THOUGHT they were saving the Roman Republic. However, it backfired at them. Octavian, great-nephew and adopted son through Caesar's last will, was greatly angered. The only man he knew as a child growing up, since his blood father died when he was 4. Octavian rose to power from that point. The events from the assassination: The Second Triumvirate The suicide of Brutus and Cassius after they lost the battle between Octavian and Mark Antony Marcus Lepidus forced to retire Mark Antony and Cleopatra wage war but they ended up losing to commit suicide themselves This Octavian as the sole winner and transformed the Republic into the Empire, and he ruled for about 40 years. The longest living Emperor of the Roman Empire. And *THAT* one spot must be the most important part of the entire Roman history.

We just do not know what would have happened if Caesar died in old age. He was deified at his pinnacle of life... imagine he died old, broke and powerless, after someone had restored the old republic. And don't forget, under Augustus' long, more or less peaceful reign ("pax romana") Rome was prosperous as never before.

He founded Roman Democracy, which means *he first unified his country and the courts from being feudal, and THEN defended their agricultural gentry's rights to exist when they were attacked by foreign language groups who were overpopulating and seeking territory in a VIOLENT manner.* Not all his acts were one of conquest, because *not all of Romes neighbors were aggressive, as seen in how he treated Egypt (Cleopatra) and North Africa.* most of these neighbors became vassals because they asked a stronger power for support in another conflict. *He even exacted payments from Cleopatra for services rendered, simply because he was loyal to the men who died on her behalf to save Egypt from a tyrant and an inbreed fool.* Cleopatra hated the prospect of having to sex with her own younger brother for an heir. *Julius' successor Octavian on the other hand was more violent and inhumane, and did not build a single thing that was not already done by Julius Caesar before him.* You cannot beat the original *"CAESAR"! God bless him!*

Thanks for the video, this is the best one showing the “Murder Site" of Caesar. . And Guys I want your opinion on one thing: . What do you think if the Italian Gov. would try to rebuild the Roman Forum with GLASS ??? . Yes, I may be wrong, don’t know if it is possible, but some other day I was wondering how would be if there is a project trying to recreate the “first buildings” while keeping the untouched rocks/marble (or what was left of them) on the same original places and assemble the walls, columns, ceilings and everything that is missing with glass trying at least to offer a view of how were the “Original Buildings” and the Roman Forum. . I don’t know if this is possible, but should be something like those “Glass Garden Houses” but with the original rocks in the correct locations showing the true positions of them and also the whole structure of the buildings. . If the Italian Gov tries to make this, I think Rome would surpass the number of tourists in Paris. . imagine seeing the most important place in the History of Western Civilization and how originally was!!

Why does everyone make Julius Caesar out to be dark-haired? Julius Caesar and the entire Julii clan were known to be blonde haired and blue eyed. Many of Rome's patricians families were blonde haired and red haired and so on. Hell, the Cornelii are an example for they were documented as red-headed. Hell, One of their most famous members, Lucius Cornelius Sulla, was known to be redheaded with gray colored eyes

@@DANandSALLY While this sounds a tad sarcastic, (can't tell online), this isn't hard to research. Everyone thinks blonde hair and blue eyes was only Northern European, but Celts, Gauls and Germanians were commonly red and blonde haired, with blue, green, and gray eyes and the Celts and Gauls invaded the Republic on numerous occasions during their Early Republic days, (The Sack of Rome in 390 B.C. by Brennus just being the most famous occasion, and he then went on to permanently settle down in Northern Italy with all of his followers. Then the Germanians became a common foe, beginning with the Cimbri in the Cimbri wars (113-101 B.C.), and they had many other Germanian allies like the Teutones and the Ambrones also involved in that war. However, Julius Caesar's lineage was traced to the nobility of Alba Longa, an Italian City-State in Latium that was conquered early on. Julius Caesar had light hair and light eyes, and ONLY had native Latin/Italian ancestry. I don't know why people don't read more rather than be half-informed.

We know from records that he was killed in the curia of the Pompeian theatre, at the feet of the statue of Pompeius. We know the structure of that complex from an ancient marble city map ("forma urbis") and from the shape of the streets in that area. When Mussolini excavated that sacred area you have seen, he also found the foundations of the curia, exactly where it was expected, behind the back side of the round temple. At the northern site of the place, the hecatostylum hall was found, so it is quite safe. Plus, there are records that the place where Caesar died has been sealed by a concrete plate which is to see there.

@@DANandSALLY Sorry if I sounded like I was nit picking, I didn't mean too, If you ever go back, find the other end of the Theatre of Pompeo, it's on the Via di Grottapinta, you can't miss it all the buildings are on a big curve, there's a hotel there that has opened it's cellars up and made them into dinning rooms so the foundation walls are touchable, plus most of the staff are students who study Rome, life gets no better, good luck on your travels and be safe

Yes, the temples form a sacred area and are of republican times, long before Caesar and Pompeius. The place where Caesar was killed is indicated correctly, and most part of the curia (which forms the most eastern part of the Pompeian theatre complex) is under the road, as you say, while the actual theatre is under the buildings to the west. It still can be recognized in the shape of the streets and piazzas southern of Sant'Andrea della Valle.

The most famous pagan in history. The site of his murder is known, yet one can't light a candle there, as he was not Christian. Our whole civilisation is a result of his work, yet we can't really pay our respects. If he were someone like Constantine, he would have been made a saint and it would have been easy. The irony is amazing.

The Curia of Pompey is located in an area now called Largo di Torre Argentina. The address is Rione IX Pigna, 00186 Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy. It is about 800 m northwest of the Roman Forum so a fifteen-minute walk at most or 4 blocks south from the Pantheon, about half way between the Victor Emmanuel Monument and Piazza Navona. Enjoy your visit and let us know how it went!

One could define that year as "56th year of Caesar" (born 100 BC), "709 ab Urbe condita" (753 BC) or, as the Romans would, "when Caesar was 5th time and Marcus Antonius was 1st time consul". But I assume that would help no one.
