Prime minister of Ceylon , that time. Nationalisation killed the ceylons' export orient economy. MNCs headquartered in ceylon moved to Singapore. She came to power on emotional votes being a widow. Not on merit.

According to my mother who grew up there, she also ruined the economy of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 with her socialist policies. There were severe food shortages and rationing thanks to her.

If her plans were implemented today SL's economy would be in a untouchable height !! But in those days people were unaware of economical growth and the power of own manufacture ; people only wanted instant results in everything

Actually she was loved in Jaffna. She said the Jaffna farmer was an example to the whole world. Her husband imposed the sinhala only act to appease sinhala extremism. The Bandaranaike family has said they don't know how to handle sinhala extremism because it was endemic to Sri Lanka and the whole world wouldn't believe that Buddhism was violent.

Yes, I may have been mistaken, but thought I heard a cricketer from Trinidad saying that he had met her in Sri Lanka and she told him she was from Trinidad. May be she meant she also lived in the village of Belmont in Port of Spain, Trinidad. I am so proud to know she was the first woman prime minister or head of state in any country of the world.

Been to, perhaps, but to my knowledge she didn't lived in Trinidad. I think it's some confusion. She came from a very prominent family and married into one as well. So her life was quite public and if she did, it would have been common knowledge.
