Wow, what a great video! I must subscribe. Many don’t realize how many folks in CA live in the mountains in zones 8(a&b). Love that yours are focused on my exact zone! 😃👍🏼

That is soooo exciting!! Congratulations. I love our generally mild winters that allows us to have more home grown food during the winter.

Crazy weather we now have to water every day my brassicas aren't liking the hot weather and spring was cold and wet and a lot of my strawberries rotted now they are drying out hopefully fall doesn't come and temperatures drop below normal hoping for Indian summer

Most of my brassicas are done for the season (besides transplants started for fall). I have some cabbage that is still left and it doesn't look very happy, but holding on, lol. My greenhouse strawberries are trying to produce what seems like millions of runners and I am struggling to keep up. I do love the taste of a warm strawberry picked in the middle of the day.

Where in Oregon are you? I am in Eugene and am trying to find someone in a comparable location. I have to container garden as I only have a cement porch. It is so important for me to eat unpeticided veggies. I will be 65 in June and had to take a year off due to a low back fusion. I will not let that keep me down this summer. Just have to carry things a little less, that's all.

So I live in Arizona and we are in zone 8b but it’s still very hot into September. Can I start my cabbage and Brussels sprouts out in the garden or do I need to plant them indoors? Thanks!

I've learned a lot about gardening from you! This will be my first full year of gardening (started Fall of last year). When do you start carrots from seed?
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch 2 жыл бұрын
I seed carrots on an almost year-round basis but for the fall garden, now (July) in the time to plant carrots. I actually seeded carrots for fall earlier today. Make sure the soil does not dry out before they germinate (carrots take longer to germ in general)- that is the biggest issue when growing carrots, they are not strong growers and dry soil will result in very poor germination.

Are you having any issues with Septoria leaf spot? Im on a new plot and its everywhere ugh. I'm in 8b as well, southern cascades.Looking forward to my fall garden as well.Love your vids.

Luckily, I have not. I tend to space things a little to close in general but I seem to luck out with fungal issues- for now at least. That is a bummer to have that in a new plot. I have a few tomato plants that are not as green as the others but I am not sure if that is a watering problem or a pest.

I really like the video and the details, but have so many questions. I live right on the line between zones 8 and 9. I'm trying to learn a few plants at a time, growing in raised beds. I planted cucumbers, zuchinni squash, and okra in May, but the bugs decimated my cucumbers and squash. The okra is still going strong. yay!!! Anyway, I just don't know about when I should plant or sunlight requirements. Today is Sept. 18, but have yet to plant anything for winter. I bought brussel sprout, kale, beet, radish, and jalopeno pepper seeds. What would you recommend?
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch 2 жыл бұрын
Anything you plant now will need to overwinter (not enough time for fall harvesting). Brussel Sprouts, Kale and beets would be perfect (get some spinach too if you like it). Radishes can be seeded now too but they can be tricky so you can seed them now or in the spring (or both). Jalapenos will have to wait until next year.

Would you recommend direct sowing the things on your list or plant them in seed trays and transplant them in the garden?
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it depends on a few factors. If the garden is small, I always prefer transplanting so you can make the best use of the space. If you are busy, direct seeding can be less work. Root veggies like carrots and beets should be direct sown. I like to direct sow most things but transplant the brassicas like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower for the fall. Garden room is also a factor. If your garden is full, transplanting buys a little time.
