Another great video! I really like my American Bellflower. I planted it a number of years ago and had nice flowers. I was disappointed when I didn't see it the next year, but to my surprise, it came back a couple of years later and now I have a good-sized patch and it is spreading down into the ravine where I've planted it on the edge. It self seeds readily. The key was to realize that it just grows as a basal rosette in the first year and then sends up the flower stalk the next year. With the regular rain we've had mine are now taller than me with terrific spikes of blue flowers. The key for me was to recognize the look of the basal rosette and not pull it as a weed.

Thanks so much for watching and for the comment! That's wonderful news about the American Bellflower! I am excited for these wee seedlings to grow! I can't believe how big they can get! I bet they look fantastic by the ravine! And nice to see them taking care of themselves and filling in on their own now - you've raised them well! 😉 I think I'll plant some out by the creek too - great idea! Thanks again for all the seeds! We'll have to do a swap this fall too!

Great video! I bought the lupine seeds after seeing your in an earlier video ;}. I think you are right about the great blue lobelia in the in false sunflower pot. Looking forward to your next video.

Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad I peaked your interest in the lupines - I think they're so fantastic - and they're a host plant for a number of pollinators! You'll likely have to wait a year or two for flowers if growing from seed, but they're so worth it! 😁

Thanks for the ID for the great blue lobeila - I'll keep it around then! Funny how the leaves look a bit different - I'll be sure to put them beside each other in the next one to get a better comparison! Thanks again for watching! 💚

As usual, great video tour. I need to take video lessons from you. I've made comments here as I watched. FYI - in Canada, the plant we always called Heartleaf Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) is now recognized as Creeping Foamflower (Tiarella stolonifera). Time to redo your sign. My Echinacea pallida all flopped over this year, too, as did my Rudbeckia hirta. Give your beebalm a couple of years and it will fill in. Both M. didyma and M. fistulosa are susceptible to powdery mildew. Doesn't seem to matter what conditions it grows it, if the spores are in the air, they'll find it. Rudbeckia fulgida is native in Ontario only in the Windsor/Essex County area. You should be able to dig that Butterfly Milkweed this fall once it dies back and move it into more sun - just make sure you dig good and deep. I've had Swamp Milkweed volunteer in very dry conditions and do quite well so yours in the boulevard garden should do just fine. I notice ragweed growing beside your cactus. Your Canada Goldenrod will also spread very aggressively by rhizome. The first serviceberry I planted (it was 3' tall when I planted it) lasted 2 years and died. I planted a new one in the same spot this spring and it's doing great (so far). Looks like you have some Golden Alexander in your pot of Blue Lobelia - the ones on the left side of the pot with the very serrated roundish leaves. Your big volunteer in the Golden Alexander pot is some form of willowherb. And I don't think I see any Zizia in there, either. In my garden, I've got Jack in the Pulpit popping up all over - wherever there is shade - and I've never planted a single one. The ants have planted them all. They'll handle moist shade to dry shade (even under sugar maples in sandy loam soil). Your "giant sunflower" looks an awful lot like chicory. Unfortunately, I think your Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) looks incredibly like Korean Mint (Agastache rugosa) which is often mistakenly sold as the native, even by native plant nurseries on occasion. The lobes look too rounded on the leaves and they look too soft and fuzzy for the native plant. The fact that I saw several seedlings in your other pots also hints that it's Korean Hyssop as it spreads much more prolifically by seed than our native species. Keep making these videos. They're a great way to educate folks.

I can't thank you enough for taking such time to watch my video and share all of this incredible information! I will look into it all. I also appreciate the encouragement to continue these tours, especially from a pro like yourself. Sometimes I have a bit of imposter syndrome and worry about what all the pros would think, so I'm happy to hear that you think they're helpful. I'm just learning and am very open to learning more and more - and sharing what I learn along the way!

I also wanted to note that I shared your map at my workshops this weekend at the Hillside Festival in Guelph on attracting pollinators with native plants and everyone was super psyched about it! It is really an incredible resource! Thank you for putting such effort into it! It's awesome!

Hello from Ottawa! Always love the updates on our native options. My orange butterfly weed has been blooming for weeks, but I don’t have the traditional milkweed yet! FYI I think your hydrangea has chlorosis and may need iron & sulphur fertilizer.

Hello! Thanks so much for watching my little tour! Careful with common milkweed as it can be quite aggressive and can send out runners feet away - not something I'm worried about in my boulevard garden, but something others might be concerned about in their yards! Swamp milkweed is a new fav of mine too - the pretty pink flowers are so lovely 💓 thanks for the tip about my hydrangea - maybe that's why it's not blooming too! I wonder if this is happening to my blueberry bush too - it has similar light green leaves in parts. Thank you for bringing this up to me - I will definitely look into it. Do you know if an iron/sulphur fertilizer will have a negative impact on surrounding plants, or if it will help its neighbours too? Thanks again! 💚

It might depend on soil and moisture. In my garden obedient plant did not do very well but bee balm is just massive. I have to divide it every year so that it doesn't take over.

Thanks for the reply! I thought they might do well beside eachother, but perhaps not! I will try to save some seeds and try some beebalm elsewhere too - good thinking...! My wild bergamot didn't make it in the boulevard garden - I'm going to have to do some research/thinking!!

I sown wild bergamot in two very different places (dry and moist) to check which is better. I have to wait till next year to see how it worked. For now, they both are fine but still relatively small. @@TheSuburbanGardenista

@@mirkalenarcik6889 I'm going to have to get my hands on some seeds of that myself. My boulevard is quite dry and they didn't come back over the winter (though that could also be due to salt too from the road). My gardens are mostly a giant experiment!

same experience with pale purple coneflower--- floppy in full sun. How did they ever survive before tomato cages and/or improvised props? First year and second year plants??
