I like how Fridge points out the main problem of the group: their personalities are incompatible with their avatars. While in the first movie, their avatars were people opposite of them in the this one, the avatars just don’t work with who they are. It is an interesting dynamic and I love how Fridge is able to stop the group and point that out, when they were ready to just jump head first into danger.

Helps that he was in Professor Shelly. He may not be compatible with him, but Shelly IS the smartest PC avatar. Fridge himself was never a dummy, just arrogant, now that he's learned through Mouse to slow down and think, Fridge is able to connect with Shelly better, therefoth access Shelly's "intelligence stat" I'll call it. Still don't fit well with Shelly, but Fridge at least fits better with him then he did with Ruby.

Fridge would also know because he’s experienced both sides of the coin. He got to be Mouse who he was compatible with and Ruby who he was not, Shelly was kinda a middle ground where he was or wasn’t compatible depending on the situation. Author's Saving Throw: One of the complaints about the last film was that Kevin Hart, unlike the other actors, did not sound or act any different than he normally does, instead just acting like himself. In this one, Hart does a Danny Glover impression to great effect, representing Milo being in control of the avatar.

Avery Merrick They gave the actors more to do this movie, they took advantage of their talents. It showed. This is a textbook all-star cast. I particularly enjoyed the way the Rock played Devito and how Karen Gillan played Fridge, albeit briefly. I was skeptical about the horse at first but then I realized it brought even more credibility to the Moose Finbar character with his Aquaman-like ability with animals.

It was annoying, but really not unrealistic based on my experience teaching technology to older folks. One guy I know, in his 50s, I kept trying to explain that he should zoom in the browser for email rather than force everyone to type in obscenely large font. Another in his 70s on a virtual whiteboard, half an hour every week for three years, he was incapable of learning anything beyond draw and erase-all. No color/size/undo. I put a foam pad on the erase-all button, and he always spammed it 4-5 times. I believe dementia and Alzheimer's patients are like this too, incapable of grasping the present reality.

This scene is one of the big reasons why this movie is so brilliant as a video game adaptation. It's realistic! When playing a video game, you're not always gonna be good with just any character. As Fridge points out, Spencer's not a good Ming. Eddie's not a good Bravestone. Milo's not a good Finbar. Bethany's the best at talking and manipulating, so her being the horse doesn't fit her. This happens with actual video games!

I'm gonna say it: The character swapping element knocked the entire movie down a peg. What they were doing beforehand was great. Not only was it fun to see these unique and funny performances from Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Dwayne Johnson, but I loved what they were doing with Spencer's character. The whole reason they're all trapped in Jumanji again is because Spencer felt insecure about himself and wanted to become Bravestone again. Instead, his character was chosen for him and that character was Ming Fleetfoot. As Spencer himself said, "She's small, crafty, and has allergies. She's basically me!" Spencer saw Jumanji as a way to escape from himself and poetically got a character almost exactly like him. If he had stayed Ming for the entire movie and let his grandfather win the day as Bravestone, I think the lesson he learns by the end would've felt much more potent. Instead, Spencer's selfish actions of re-entering Jumanji and forcing his friends to dive in after to save him ultimately results in him getting exactly what he wanted. We get some funny moments out of it, but this is definitely the biggest flaw of the movie.
