"In the Jungle you must wait, till the dice read 5 or 8" This proves two things: Robin Williams was in a Jungle, and he was in there for YEARS!!!! 1969-1995 That's 26 years. You don't experience the same amount in a few days or weeks of 'in-game' time as you would HALF A LIFE TIME!!!! Besides, a Trailer's not going to reveal the scariest parts of the film when it's trying to be Action-y and Adventurous. These kids don't even know the full depths of Jumanji and we, the audience, outside of the wildlife (Animals and Plants), probably haven't even seen a fraction of what's in the Jungle. Remember guys, don't judge a book by its cover. And don't judge Alan Parrish's experience by what you see here. No Trailer will ever reveal EVERYTHING like that, and we can't expect this video game to show the same things the board game did or what we were told.

Exactly. The new movie has its own Alan Parrish, too, and all things considered, the experience is every bit as harrowing. What people forget is that the original Jumanji was SUPPOSED to be funny, too, and action adventure-y. It just turned out to be much more horrifying in the end and scared the hell out of a lot of the kids it was aimed it. The way I took this movie after seeing it is that it was still aimed at the original audience, at the kids who grew up on Jumanji, and this was more like, "Hey, here is the movie we MEANT to give you back then." Quite honestly, the fact this movie was named "Jumanji" almost made me take a pass on it, because the original Jumanji was NOT funny, not fun, and just terrifying to me. So I had no desire to see this new version until the trailer promised me a much more fun time.

3TREY87 Except when he went into the game he was still a kid and had to struggle to survive. Here, they are full grown adults with new skills and abilities they never earned. The real life struggle to learn ones potential is lessened with the concept of already having them along with multiple do-overs. Life doesn't give you do-overs or power-ups. That's what made the original stand the test of time!

so a few points, i want to share - jumanji has the ability to evolve, or change to make other people play it. jumanji evolved into zathura (space game) because the people who had picked it up didnt want to play a jungle game, and yes i know people still want to play board games, but maybe the people that made the game change into a video game didnt like board games - as they point out jumanji did suck in robin williams character in the original though he didnt change, he was still absorbed into the games - since zathura was in space it means that the game doesnt have to be based on one specific place, so the jumanji jungle in this could be a completely different place (though i dont think thats supposed to be) - jumanji came out 22 years ago, and while many people have seen it, i still think fewer and fewer has in the end i will wait to judge till it comes out, though i am hopeful that it can be good

Maybe I'm just trying to give myself a reason to not be upset that it doesn't resemble the original movie, but I believe that, since the rules of the game state that the game changes every time you play, why should that not apply to the tone of the movie? If Jumanji changes every time, then it could make sense that the spirit of the movie would do the same. I still firmly believe that Zathura (Excellent movie, look it up, buy it, watch it) is a sequel to Jumanji. Since the game changes every time you play, it would make sense that the game could come back as a sci-fi, why would a video game be any different? And the rules could change too, like playing as avatars instead of yourself or having multiple lives. Who knows, there could be another Jumanji sequel where it comes back as a roleplaying game like dungeons and dragons, how cool would that be? I just wanna be able to appreciate this as a movie, without letting my love for the original and my hope that it does the last one justice get in the way and take any enjoyment out of the movie.

the original books Jumanji and Zathura it was a sequel the kids that play Zathura in the book live right next to the kids that played Jumanji and show up at the end of Jumanji and the game changes by who picks it up. It went from a jungle game to a space one so it becoming a video game in the modern era makes sense (i didnt like the movie but id like to point this out cause some people didnt like it being a video game) that being said I dont think the movies have any connections (Jumanji and Zathura) because different companies and creators hold the rights to them think about it like Marvel and Fox (before Disney bought them) the X-Men and all the other hero exist in the same world in the comics but because different people owned the film rights they couldnt share a universe in the movies

I actually love that it's a totally new concept. I think that will help separate this movie from the old one and will prevent people from wanting this new movie to recreate the original. I think what they should've done is make a movie about Alan Parish surviving 26 years inside the game after getting sucked into it. I wanna see how this kid managed to survive for so long in such a harsh environment. I wanna see how he met Van Pelt (the hunter) and what got them to be enemies. Note: Van Pelt is self aware that Jumanji is a board game as he told Sarah that he can't kill her due to the fact Alan's dice-roll is what spawned him into their world. So seeing what this game really is and how it came to existing would also be cool to see.

I had that same idea that Jumanji is a magical object that is there to challenge people. Over time it became that old style board game. It then "evolved" into this old style videogame system. I'm thinking there will be a guy or some people that were sucked in before at the school. Another thing could be how you describe the 2 movies. The 1st movie was about family. That's more of a board game type of thing so it became a board game. And then it calls to the people that need that type of help (the Alan and his family problems and the siblings missing their parents). In this one, the teens seem kinda selfish or loners. Being forced to play a 4 controller co-op game would remedy that wouldn't it?

I agree with Shane. The descriptions of Jumanji in the first movie were far more disturbing. This version looks like a Hawaiian vacation adventure. Keep in mind that Alan (Robin Williams) only got sucked into the game as the consequences of a bad roll of the dice, the game doesn't work that way by default.

The only thing I do not understand (for now) is "why do they become avatars?". Yeah, videogame and whatnot, but the point of Jumanji (in my opinion) is to face its dangers as who you are, either a child or a teen, not a bunch of characters already mastering something. For now, the only point I see is to make the jokes "omg I'm not me anymore" and "omg it seems I can do that I didn't know". I hope I'm wrong. Otherwise, well, seems like an updated version of Jumanji, videogame instead of board game. Fine for me. We'll see how it goes.

The fact that they go 'into' the game kills it for me pretty hard. Reason being, it looks like a normal jungle. In the original Jumanji, every turn pulls something from inside the jungle into the real world. So the jungle itself should look Crazy! Like a jungle from Hell! Everyone is judging based on a trailer, there are many ways that the movie could go down lots of different paths and completely redeem it. The trailer is cut together to create hype, not introduce growth arcs, show surprises, etc...

Hey Blind Wave! Love your trailer reactions, and they're actually rerun-worthy, as I sometimes go back and watch them again, later on. I came back to this one, and I just thought I'd ask you if you ever went to see the movie? And what you tought of it...? I went to see it, keeping a fairly suspicious and watchful mindset (kind of figuring that all the best bits were crammed into the trailer), but I was SO SURPRISED! I thought it was hilarious, and it kept me in stitches most of the time. I like Dwayne Johnson, but I'm not really a huge fan of Jack Black - in this one though he was a total gem! i really like this trailer and its looks really fun. yes it looks nothing like the original but i think of this as another version of it. like the jumanji has a game board version and a video game version where the board brings the game to you and the video game brings you into the game.

I had a similar problem with the Battlestar Galactica reboot/reimagining. The original came out between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back - was very Star Warsy and kid friendly. The re-envisioning was very adult oriented, quickly dropped the code names (like Apollo), recast male roles as female, dropped all the original female roles and had a very gritty feel. It's so different why use the same name? Call it something else.

The original movie is still going to be far better. In this one it looks like there's no consequences like death and somehow there's people in the jungle with guns and vehicles. So the new looks more like a action/comedy. When the original is terror, suspense, &a little of action/comedy

A cursed board game makes more sense than a 'cursed' game cartridge. What, do the evil forces of darkness have computer programmers? Lovecraftian horrors with glasses hunched over an 8-bit computer? The last scene ruins the original concepts of Jumanji. It's played for laughs, meaning they have multiple lives, so why should we be 'immersed' or invested? As for why the game is there, while in the previous movie the game was attempted to be hidden, this would mean that the new guy starting at 3:20 is the "Allen Perish" who got stuck in the game. So instead of the dark tones from the previous film with the concept of filicide, this will probably play more on tones of not-fitting-in-high-school teen drama. Similar to the Zathura revamp, which tried to keep the original concept of family but just had an unappealing family. Hell it had Kristen Stewart and she was in the background most of the time. This looks more like a live action version of Contra!...Maybe I'm just a brooding cynic but we NEED more films that challenge the audience.
