The 5 series was never made to be a 'track machine' but rather, the quintessential 'business sedan'. As recent trends show, people buying a 5er want a comfortable sedan with a hint of sporting intention. From the G30 generation, BMW started focusing more on comfort than sporting capabilities. So yes, it is true that the 5ers has gotten more comfort oriented and lost the touch of sportiness that made it famous. However, that's what the market wants, BMW as a business has to give in to the needs of their clients. That is to say nothing of their modern styling which is a different conversation altogether (to be clear, I firmly believe the G30 LCI is peak 5 series in terms of looks, comfort and driving dynamics)
