The Magnificent World of Toys

Күн бұрын

At an early age Tom Franck knew his toys would some day be more than play things. Becoming more selective, as the years went by, as far as what he collects, rarity soon became paramount throughout his collecting journey spanning decades, collecting primarily Jumbo Machinder. His extensive research along with journeys to Japan and due diligence would eventually
lead him to obtaining one of the most elusive toys on earth, that toy being a Jumbo Machinder, Garada K7. With only a handful known to exist in the world, Tom shares his story on how he obtained one. Tom also delves into the history of Jumbo Machinder, his encounter with Go Nagai, Jumbo Machinder forgeries and much more.

@@TheMagnificentWorldofToys Yes I was quite lucky. After watching your video several years ago where you went to Japan to secure your K7 and paid a pretty penny for it, I thought wow! What a cool action figure. I want one even if I only pay a tiny fraction of what you did. The GK7 reminds me so much of another Japanese figure I adore: The Ogon Bat i.e. (Golden Bat)

Fascinating story. I have a few cheapy robots but have no connection with the cartoons or vintage robots or anime. I grew up with action man and atari and the line about computer games taking a big chunk out of the toy market is even more relevant with my own kids. They still have imagination but its more in a virtual world with no plastic toy counterparts. And because the games or properties are so fluid, the window of time to produce toys is short.

Yeah, I've been a JM collector for 40+ years, I can safely say my collection most likely is the largest or one of the largest in Texas. However, I could never get past a certain level......once it comes to the level of do I want this JM or a new car or a new roof on my house...... I'm out. And if you can't cross that threshold.....you will NEVER have them all. Ive always tipped my hat to guys like Alt and others that got to that level. It takes real dedication. My Jumbo's will be one of the last parts of my collection that I sale off, but I will at some point, because you cant take them with you. It's been a fun hobby. Now, I feel very differently about fakes than most collectors ....im all for it, as long as they are sold as repros and have identifying markers in place that allows them to be identified as such. This same issue plauges the Transformers line as well. But, I'd love to own a spot on Spartan K7 figure that Id normally never be able to own at a fraction of what an original costs.....and as long as it's marked as such, collectors of orginals will not lose value of their originals. I also enjoy being able to get repro parts for incomplete JMs.....Hiw many collectors out there could use repro Danguard wings or his helmet??? Lol
