Hey Cameron, newer follower here. This is my first year with a lawn of my own to take care of. You mentioned sharpening your lawn mower blade. Hello, Thanks for making informative videos. I am in cool season zone and I had put Tenacity when the temp was 50-55. I aerate the overseed the lawn. There are no weeds. Do I have to put down post emergent? If so, what post emergent and when? Also, please let me know what is that .2 or .4 fertilizer you put overall growth? I like liquid because those are cheap and very effective. Thank you for educating and helping the community. Much appreciated!

You only have to use a post emergent if you have weeds. If you do not have weeds then there is no need to apply it. My fert application will probably be from Lawn Supply Company.

Im glad that you had great success last fall. Keep it going, you got it! I have been talking about Pre-emergents in almost all of my videos so far this season. So watch everything from the February Lawn Chores to this video and you should have a understanding. Simply put pre-emergents prevent some weeds from establishing in your lawn mainly crabgrass, so you will have less weeds in your lawn. @polofieldslawnservice also has a great video on Pre-emergents: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmiveJ5pntufi9k

Damn! Where in MD are you at? Your lawn is gorgeous! Do you have a sprinkler system? I'm in Charles County and inherited a lousy lawn when I purchased my house in 2013.. I just started putting more time into it last year after trying to revive it years earlier.. I use the Sunday program with a little bit of Scott's granular fertilizer too. Just installed a sprinkler system last fall, and right now my lawn looks better, but ill see how it holds up during the summer. I'm still like a 4 to your 10, but hopefully I'll get my lawn to look like yours within the next several seasons!

Thanks I appreciate that! I do have irrigation which I ran for the first time today because we need some rain. I like that you have the right mindset about seeing the improvements over the next few seasons. It is a process so just continue to learn and get a nutrition program that works for what your lawn needs. You can do it, my front yard has not been fully renovated it is just a 3-4 years of being consistent and improving the care on the lawn. Thanks for watching!

I recommend identifying the nutrients that are currently in your soil and the characteristics of your soil. Have you completed a soil test? Blindly throwing products on your lawn to see what works is not a solution or method that I recommend.

Where do you live? I'm in Washington. My battle is always fighting weeds while trying to over seed while not using pre emergent because I'm trying to over seed. Only thing I can think of is to scalp, aerate, seed, apply starter fert, lime, and spray with Tenacity, then cover with peat moss to get me through to the fall, then maybe over seed and starter fert in the fall too, along with Tenacity. Then the following year start with preemergent and hopefully by the first sign of growing season my lawn will be thick enough to not need to over seed. Yell make it look too easy!
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes Жыл бұрын
I'm in Maryland. I suggest that you pick the best season to overseed either fall or spring for your area. Then the opposite season you apply your pre-emergent. Trying to overseed spring and fall makes it hard to prevent any weeds. You can always get on a good post emergent weed control to control broadleaf weeds. Fall seedings tend to establish better by springtime for cool season grass, then you can apply pre-emergent in the spring to prevent some of the heavy weed pressure of spring and summer.

Yeah, I do. I will start using Anuew PGR, which is known to suppress Triv. Right now, the only long term solution is cut it out or spray it out with a non-selective herbicide.

Hey Cam, speaking of mower blades, even when i give my blades a fresh sharpen, my grass blades still get frayed. I have GCI tttf and mow with ego dual blade. Also have same toro as you with mulching blade. Both make my grass blades frayed. Any suggestions?
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes Жыл бұрын
My only thought is that you aren't actually getting a sharp cutting edge when you sharpen your blades or your cutting edge angle is not optimal. Thats why I bought the All American Sharpener tool to make sure my cutting edge angle is correct everytime. Especially being that both of your mowers are doing the samething. I have cut the GCI TTTF before with no issues. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

@@ElevatedLawnscapes thanks for replying, im a fabricator for 25+ yrs, so im work with metal,grinders, machines everyday. I don't think its a sharp or angle issue. Sorry for the essay 😄 So I am trying to determine when I should apply my 2nd pre-emergent and/or post emergent applications on my yard. My first pre-emergent app was 3/25. Post -emergent app 4/10. I have noticed many spots of weed starting to dye off but looks like some may recover as well. Soil temps here have been fluctuating still. But have actually crossed 70 for a few days or two now. In the past and here again. But averaged in the low 50s to low 60s. Depending what week it is. Temps here having been playing since mid March. Any thoughts?
@ElevatedLawnscapes
@ElevatedLawnscapes Жыл бұрын
This is my way of doing Pre-emergent, I base it on duration of coverage. My first app is early before things start to germinate. That app is about 3 months of coverage. About 2 months after that first app, I apply my second app for about 4-5 months of coverage. At the end of that its time for overseeding. I don't worry about soil temps at all for the second app. For you post emergent, make sure you are using the proper application rates and methods as directed on the label for a effective kill. You can reapply based on the time period directed on the label.
