Wow, this is the longest and most honest explanation on jumper wires I have heard. Thanks Dave

Thanks, this is exactly what I told every Carrera consumer that called me in the 8-ish years I worked for them. I HATE to have people buy something they don't need just because they heard something on the internet from people with NO practical experience with the products they're talking about.

Having the tower and wireless controllers take power away as well? I have 48’ of track and a double pit lane which is about middle. For some damn reason the pit lane entry piece of track malfunctions sometimes on certain cars. Can’t figure it out. Could it be I need jumper wires?

I solder old Carrera copper pickups to the end of the wire. They are the same width as the premade ones, free and work great. They slide right in and make good contact.

Watching this because I'm helping my buddy build his set (HO) we started with the biggest set that is available (AFX Giant raceway 62') and are extending the straightaways by 4' (each ,adding a total of 16' of track). Layout will be on a 4x12 table.. I had an idea while watching this, since you need a total of 4 wires, I'm gonna use 4 wire "trailer wiring" wire (from the auto parts store/ Home Depot) it is already color coded, and joined together, making things nice and neat/ tidy ;)

So my beginnings in slots were looking at catalogs, like the Sears Wish Book and pouring over the pages there and thinking about what set I could do the most different layouts with. I come from a background of model railroaders so I have a natural love of scenery too. I get more excited by seeing a well designed little world that someone has taken care and love to build than I do seeing a super fast car.

Thanks for the explanation. I have one issue: On my 25 meters of Carrera Digital Track. I can run up to 4 CPU or players cars simultaneosly without jumper wires. If I put the 5th and 6th car on track, I notice that the power unit gives low power only to these last two cars in all the track parts...You think I can resolve this with one jumper wire?

You didn't explain what needs to be considered if there are cross over tracks involved, or in a digital set with lane changers. Obviously with an analog set with a x over, the lane order could be different on the far side of the track, but how does it work with digital lane changers?
@SlotCarNewsOfficial2 жыл бұрын
With digital lane changes there's no issue. The lanes stay the same lanes regarding the power. The more "powered" lane changes (meaning-Carrera, Scalextric) they take power but they don't change the lanes themselves from one side to another. On SCX's digital the lane changes aren't powered (they have a mechanical lane change mechanism) but the same thing holds true the lane's power is still the lanes power. With analog you MUST use the cross over pieces in pairs regardless so there's no concern. If you only use 1 cross over, or cross overs in odd numbers you've made a long one lane track so there will be an issue. But that issue would be there regardless if you had jumpers or not so that's why I didn't mention it. So if you only have 1 crossing piece in an analog track you have a one lane track since the lanes are joined at that crossing piece... unless you put in a second crossing piece (which is why they're sold in pairs) then you've installed them correctly.

will you see a difference if you add a jumper wire to a 60 ft track?

Only if the track isn’t well put together. If there are any gaps in the track you might. But 60 feet isn’t that large.

If you have 2 sets of carrera box sets can you use more than one electrical hook up to your track rather than jumper wires
@DrDixonBhD3 жыл бұрын
How do you do that? I was concerned that the double voltage would burn the electronics out in the set? I’m using a 1/24 scale transformer on 90’ of track with 1/32 cars Carrera Digital.
@thecontrarian99332 жыл бұрын
@Dixon - wouldn't a second power supply have the same voltage? Maybe double the amperage available.

This may be an odd question, but would it accomplish the same thing as jumper wires to just add another powered piece of track half way around the layout? So as to have 2 powered pieces of track in your layout.

The power supply has + /- a hand control has 3 wires the brake and just piggy back from track is better I run a tech power supply and it can be 15.5 volts 5 Amps Best way to tell is the lead car getting more power and you have trouble passing but once you are your faster. Slow part most distance away. I will be doing mine tomorrow and not put it off

That works for analog, for digital sets with alot of switches you will need more.
@SlotCarNewsOfficial2 ай бұрын
Power taps are used to make sure a track has good power continuity. The type of track they are used on isn’t relevant. Digital analog tracks can bothe have power loss because of track gaps or track length.
@chrishoesing54552 жыл бұрын
Wire gauge on dc circuits is all about the length of the circuit. Comparing the wires inside the car to the jumpers doesn't work because theybare so short. I would use around 14 gauge to be in the safe zone of not introducing another weak link into the system if ut were me.

So Riddle me this Batman! Why did Carrera go with Black, White and Red, Yellow for their jumper wires? Is the White wire positive? With the other colors, Red & Yellow which one is Positive and which is Negative? I have the 5mm Carrera jumper (cables) wire set and yes, It is Rather Pricey to be just setting on the floor next to my 110' layout! I get how to connect them based on your video but, the Red and Yellow wires are THROWING ME OFF! Normally you see Red and Black being Pos + Neg but Carrera Elected to use Black & White for 1 lane and Red & Yellow for the other lane and the instructions on which wire is which isn't termed in SAE technical terms. I REALLY NEED to Know so that I DON'T SCREW UP My EXPENSIVE DIGITAL BLACK BOX CONTROLER!

@SlotCarNewsOfficial Жыл бұрын
what you might fail to understand is that if you know how to do that you'd understand if you need jumpers to begin with. most people who need to have this explained to them don't know how to measure voltage, they are a plug and play type of slot racer.
@voivode2591 Жыл бұрын
Your actually have the correct question.. Any conductor of electricity has a voltage drop dependent on length. The resistance. Yes a meter would show what that is. It’s very easy to check. Less complicated than most tasks people do to tune a car.
