My Raleigh survived until I got a 10 speed in Jr. High to ride to school. She was concerned that I’d (to quote You).., “end up in the hospital or worse.” It’s called ‘Love’, Brandon. My Granny allowed me to be a kid but, she STILL feared I may injure myself (or, worse) doing something stupid. ‘Love’ vs. living ‘Life’ isn’t mutually exclusive.

Laffy, Not only did we jump ramps in the 70's, when it snowed, we'd wait by the traffic light on our corner of 63rd Street in Southwest Philly. When a car stopped for the red light, 5 or 6 of us would grab the back bumper and squat down still on our feet. We'd hang on when the car got going again. Most times the driver would be cool and pull us for a block to the next corner. If that light was green, we'd let go. Those were the days!

A lot of teeth / bones / feelings got hurt at that spot . And yes we built plywood ramps but they were 4’ tall , might be the record for how far a qa50 landed successfully. All I can think about is that 3 speed gearshift. That thing would hurt you in ways nothing else ever could.

Holly crap do I miss those days, 1970s rocked. Roller skates and bike jumping. BBQs in the summer and good hot stew in the winters. What could a growing BOY else need.

Captivating at the highest degree " just like my neighborhood, we had no Idea that the apple create, lemon peeler and orange and stingray manta Ray would be worth alot today. This video brought me some good tears because my grandfather had a Ford truck just like the one in this video and Dad was out of Vietnam. I'm a healthy 54 today and still ride . What the youth do on their bikes today is Absolutely mind blowing , if we would have seen that kind of stuff back in my day , we would have thought that they were from another star system . All we had was oval teen)...but redbull and monster energy ?....Best video ever !! Thank you so much !!!! MG: san diego california.

It looks kinda silly now, but at the time, this was as exciting as the x-games is now.

This is awesome! I was lucky enough to see Evel in person at Great Lakes Dragway as a kid. Your neighborhood looks like mine. Thank you!

Mine was metallic green and had a flat surface rear "slick" tire at one point. I remember the handle bars splitting on a jump landing. Thanks for the nostalgia! Ironically, I'm watching this while waiting for my Yamaha XT1200ZE to get the ecu reflashed at the dyno shop. I'm 58 years old, things don't always change. 😎

I use to have several bikes as a kid. Most were for jumping while I had a few just for going for rides. Ah, the good ol days. Now I have 2 bikes. One for navigating hills on my mountain bike & one just for cruising, which is my coaster brake one. That one is my baby, complete with some special modifications I made myself, including a cellphone holder, cup holder & so much more. Talk about a great ride!

Actually, I had a Condor from Zellers. It had the finned grips, just like 1970's motorcycles. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦✌

Yeah, no PPE for us either in the 70's , besides heavy coats to try to numb the sting.

Some cool ass bikes back in the day. Big handle bars, banana seats, and let's not forget the baseball cards we use to clip on with a cloth pin that gave your bike that special sound ....Wait... I can still hear it now.

got my first bike in '77. Schwinn Stingray Jr. I was addicted to flying on bikes for 40 years. BMX for decades. broke a lot of bones. lost a lot of skin and blood. The only reason I am no longer riding today is I have had 3 major back surgeries and am lucky to be able to walk.. Miss jumping bikes every. day.
