One thing I forgot to mention, calciworms are black soldier fly larva.

I definitely recommend buying feeders online. I have geckos, frogs, and a jumper. The feeders tend to be MUCH healthier and cheaper than you can find in the pet stores. You can even set up automatic deliveries with most places. Fluker's cricket farm, Josh's Frogs, and Critter Depot are all good sources from my experience.

Super helpul thank you! I was reading up on what feeders are best but your anecdotes are great added details and more in depth parts for the care of feeders!

Question: Does sling = spiderling?
@JumpingSpidersUSA2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Good job :)

Its a term for baby spiders, yes.

I've seen people refer to baby tarantulas as slings more than jumpers tbh

I actually raised mealworms for a while. The simplest way to do it is to buy one of those cheap plastic office three drawer cube at Walmart. . Just cut the bottom out leaving about an inch of the bottom of the top drawer. Leaving about a half inch ledge all around the inside edges if each of the top drawer. Replace the bottoms of the first drawer with window screen using hot glue, rubber cement etc. I also liked to put a strip of clear packing tape around the top portion of each drawer. The beetles can't climb past the tape. Use cheap oatmeal for the bedding in each drawer. And throw in bits and pieces of fruit and vegetables in each drawer. What happens is you put your initial mealworms in the top drawer. Allow them to become darkling beetles and just keep feeding them. Eventually the Beetles will lay almost microscopic eggs and these will fall through the screen down into the middle drawer. Where, if you continue to place veggies and fruit scraps in the drawers you will see the babies climbing on to the fruit and veggies. Once the baby mealworms begins to grow move them down to the bottom drawer so that they don't eat the newer babies. And if any of your mealworms become darkling beetles just move them to the top drawer. And the cycle continues.

Can you leave the pinhead crickets in just like you do fruit flies or do I try and hurt the cricket first like you do the big crickets?! Or should I feed them in a deli cup instead of there enclosures?

I just captured a black fluffy big eyed, turquoise fanged cutie pie, about penny sized - upstate N.Y. I have no idea what I'm doing, but it's in a aerated 8×6 enclosure with moss and sticks and substrate. With 2 floors 😂😆😆😆

I'm not sure what stage my jumping spider is but its pretty small and it won't even eat the smallest of crickets. They don't sell fruit flies at my pet store. what should I do?

My two jumpers are a male orange Whitmins Jumping Spider and a maybe female? Bold jumper. She catches moths usually, she's pretty big. It's getting cold at night here in Texas finally. I'm seeing way less insects at my UV lights to catch for my Antlions and jumpers. So I'm looking for other things so I can keep them alive
@marninegley2 жыл бұрын
Apparently you are not supposed to catch insects to feed to your spiders. It’s something about a toxin buildup in the insects bodies that will be passed on to your spider and shorten their lifespan. That’s what I’ve been told. 🤷🏻♀️

Hi i am thinking of getting a jumping spider and I have an enclosure but it is 60×40×40 is it to big or do it has to be taller, thank you
@TheScottyp12 жыл бұрын
thats big
@AriVenus772 жыл бұрын
They don't need that much space, but it doesn't matter if you're willing to put in the extra work with feeders. They may sometimes have a bit hard time finding them in an enclosure this big.
