Mostly it’s due to warmer temps. In the 1979 when it was built, the winters were way colder and could hold snow on it much longer.
@dougiebruce3 жыл бұрын
@@larrylrs7226 As the video explains, unlike most ski jump hills the one at Lake Placid is not built into the hill. So unlike those that are built into the hill, the underside of this one is completely exposed to air temperature along its full length.
@dougiebruce3 жыл бұрын
So when the air warms up and the snow starts to thaw, the entire track will melt. The local topography dictated that it be built this way. I’m sure they would’ve built it into the hill if it could’ve been done. This would’ve helped retain snow during warm periods once the ground under the ramp freezes. Next time I recommend you read a bit about this stuff and educate yourself before making uninformed comments.
@larrylrs72263 жыл бұрын
@@dougiebruce I am very aware that the ramp had to be built that way, given the local topography. I know about a lot of ramps in Europe that are built similar, but can still be used consistently over a season. I more or less joked when I made my comment about the ramp being ''shit''. I'm sure it was great compared to others in the given era. I just don't get why they don't put a synthetic top on the inrun, which wouldn't need snow on top of it to slide. Might be the far more efficient solution
