That jumper you bought is so beautiful, I would like to buy one too! I don’t know why I got dizzy when I saw the mouse on the menu! Alpacas are so cute, they look like rag dolls! It was great to see the beautiful city, Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire in the past. Thank you very much for sharing! 👍🥰👏

By the time you read this, you will most likely have already made it to Machu Picchu, so what I have to say will be moot for you. However, anyone else reading this may benefit if they travel to the region in the future. Since altitude sickness is most common for tourists in Cusco, it is best not to stay there the first night, but rather at the end of a stay in the Andes. To lower your chance of getting altitude sickness, it is best to immediately travel into the relatively nearby lower elevations of the Urubamba Valley and stay in towns like Urubamba, Pisac, or Ollantaytambo where there are many incredible things to experience on the way to Machu Picchu. I have learned this the hard way after studying the area several times with fellow anthropologists. 🤒🤒

I was able to tolerate the altitude by visiting Arequipa first and Colca region soon after. After this, Cusco became more tolerable.

Interesting. So if I land in Lima and wish to spend a few days in the Cusco region, I should stay in Ollantaytambo for a night or 2 and then explore Cusco?

@@porfiriato84 I would recommend you staying 2 days in the city of Arequipa and take a plane for Cusco. It would help you to acclimate and as there are several things to do in Arequipa it wouldn't be a waste of time spending some time there.

Hubby and I were in Perú in July 2019. We stayed for 3 weeks. You guys said you will be going to climb a mountain. I’m sure you guys are going to the Rainbow Mountain. ❤️❤️❤️ I was beyond sick when trekking it. The altitude is crazy. Perú is magical. I’m sure you’ll be going to Machu Pichu. We walked 3 hours from Hidroelectra to Aguascalientes. It was a beautiful walk. ❤️

Great video - thank you both. I love Cusco…was there in May. I feel for you with the altitude sickness. I was congested with allergies in Lima and then starting feeling the effects of a stomach bug the night before flying to Cusco. By the time I arrived in Cusco I wasn’t feeling well at all - being dehydrated and congested caused a case of altitude sickness. Since I was going to on the Salkantay trek in a few days I realized I needed to have it sorted. So saw a Dr. who put me in a clinic for 24 hours, rehydrated me and I recovered from the stomach bug. After that, I was fine…and did the trek…but the thinness of the oxygen at those altitudes and higher are no joke. I often felt winded. But, the Andes are magnificent and Peru is a fabulous country…highly recommend a visit if people are up for a bit of a real adventure.

Enjoyed your video of Cusco. When I was there a few years ago I was not able to spend much time there. I do remember the day I arrived there Peru was playing Colombia in a World Cup qualifier. When I went to the square to have dinner it was packed. They had a large screen TV set up and everyone was watching the game and going crazy. It was great. One thing to point out when traveling to Machu Picchu and Aguas Caliente is to make sure you bring a poncho or rain coat. I remember when waiting in the various lines for the bus and buying tickets it rained a lot. This was in October. Fortunately someone was selling ponchos there and I was able to buy one standing in line. Thanks again and enjoy your trip.

This video made me super nostalgic. I loved Cusco. When I’m fed up and want to pack a bag and jump on a plane, it’s Cusco that’s in my head as the place I’ll go haha. I’m embarrassed to tell you the McDonalds is in the main square very well disguised. It took me ages to find it but it was 12 years ago and I needed the WiFi plus they have Inca kola on tap 😂. You guys are great. Living the dream.

Wowza such a beautiful place! When I had elevation sickness one day we walked up many steps to see a church and view over the town. I felt very puffed out then but later that day I was very sick with vomiting and diarrhea and headache. I couldn't eat anything only resting I felt a little better the next day. Rest one day then go exploring and I felt sick again 😢 I didn't feel good again until we traveled lower again The rest of our trip I was careful to check elevation before visiting a town. This video was awesome thanks for letting us come with you 😊

6:54- Did you see how tightly those huge stones were put together? The Incas knew how to build structures with gigantic carved stones fitted together SO perfectly that one can't put knife blades between them even centuries later despite no steel tools or mortar AND they're earthquake proof! Oh, and they somehow did it despite having no wheels or even pack animals larger than the alpaca or llama. BTW, in Spanish the double L is considered a single letter and pronounced 'y'. Hence they pronounce llama 'YAH-mah' almost identical to the Japanese car called Yamaha but without the last laugh whereas 'lama' with a regular L means a Tibetan monk! Interestingly, too, is the fact that the Incas had no written language but communicated very detailed instructions, commands and messages using a complicated system of coded knots carried back and forth by human runners that were considered SO sacred that anyone believed to have tampered with them were automatically executed! I hope Miss Carol feels better soon with and overcomes the food poisoning and altitude !

Top tip if you go to Aguas Caliente, the water flow in the hot springs is pretty small so you better go there in the morning or you might end up sharing the same bath water as a 100 or so other people which may or may not be something you would want. I guess Im one of the lucky ones or perhaps just had a few good days because I didn't feel anything related to altitude when I was in Cusco.

I was also very sick of the altitude. I was vomiting and had diarrhea. The diarrhea was due to their bread. It looks like they have loads of gluten in their bread than what I’m accustomed. I’m gluten intolerant. I can eat gluten but a lil piece. In Perú I ate a piece of their bread. I got really sick. My doctor told me that it might be the amount of gluten in their bread. Also I’m lactose intolerant. I can eat anything with dairy.

I found your description of the Incan Temple in minutes 13:08 very interesting, as I was just reading about that temple in the writings of Spanish chronicler Pedro Cieza de León. This Spanish chronicler visited Cuzco in 1550 and, at that time, the temple was said to be located about one "harquebus-shot" (a long-gun shot) beyond the north of the city, on a hill. Today, the city has greatly expanded and grown, and, now, the Convent of Santo Domingo occupies its site. Interesting. The people went from worshipping the sun to worshipping the venerated man by all Catholics. In the early 16th century when the Incan ruler ruled the country, virgins (who were avowed to celibacy for their entire lives) were employed in the temple by weaving and dyeing woollen cloth for the service of the temple, as well as in making the alcoholic maize beverage called "chicha." The Spanish chronicler wrote that if one of these girls or women were ever caught having a sexual relationship with a male, she would be buried alive.

Carol please buy some charcoal capsule supplement because taking these will rid your stomach of poison. Hope you can find some and keep them in your luggage for all your travels incase of food poisoning.

I have been Carnivore for 10 months so no chance of poisoning. I wonder if heavy exercise breathing would make up the lack of oxygen ? good show, thank you.

When both of you were walking through the cave and Carol asked if you wanted to go further, then replied, I don’t 😅😅 😅

1. What year/month did you go? 2. How many days did you spend in Cusco? 3. Was the market in Cusco the best place to shop for Peruvian handcrafts at a cheaper price? Or are there cheaper independent shops elsewhere?

FYI, they are not rocks but stones. A stone is a rock that has a purpose. Just saying. Another great video from the best tour quides in the world. Thanks.
