This is one of the best historical dramas that I've seen; no annoying characters and though it may not be perfect, all the characters have different and interesting personalities. And lastly, the ML may not be your cup of tea at first but he's really a great actor here and you will definitely grow to love his character.

The character of female lead was a mixture of female leads from princess wei young (being witty and intelligent), legend of yunxi(curing illness,using acupuncture method)and Princess Agents (being bold to save people at the end).. Overall,a great experience.. And one line of Jun Jiuling that I liked the most: "To be a great doctor,you have to make great efforts." ❣️🌷 This drama taught a lot of things one of which is If you don't believe in yourself,no one ever will. This is the 5x I am rewatching this amazing drama! I came to watch for Jin Han but ended loving Peng Xiaoran too! I am so inlove with Jiuling and Zhu Zhan. They are second fav power couple in cdrama to me after Gesun. There is no boring plots and scenes in this entire drama. Every event is very straight forward but very entertaining! I laugh and cry with Zhu Zhan and Jiuling through this drama. Jin Han and Peng Xiaoran really delivered their roles here. Their chemistry is second best after Gesun. Love love love their interactions in the scenes they are in! I can’t get enough of them! Jin Han never disappoint! I watched almost all his dramas and now waiting for his new dramas. I hope they broadcast Rose and Gun, Thunder Chaser this year! The other casts also did amazing job! The overall production of this drama is excellent!

This drama is incredible. I haven't skipped a scene. I am a ep37. I felt compelled to tell the tale. First I know there was some drama over the male lead. Well Chinese fan girls must have been excessively immature like 13/14..I found Jin Han to be thrilling. Sorry he's not the teenage idol type: he's a man, a real man. He's so athletic. He's moves like a tiger and smiles like an angel. He's in my top 20. he bumped Li Yifeng. The powerful female lead was hard to figure out. I found myself studying her face trying to decide if she was good or just consumed with plotting her uncle/king's assassination mission. The storyline was comprehensible and had a good pace. There wasn't much angst, thank the Drama God. The sets and wardrobes bordered on genius. Of course all the cute guys were into the fem lead but I'm use to that. I am looking forward to the few remaining episodes. HUANHU HUANHU!!! and here's praying for season 2

Jin Han is so perfect as Zhu Zhan. I can’t think of 3 other male actors to replace him as zhu zhan. Jin Han micro expressions never fail to amaze me. This is an excellent drama and I have watched it through and through four times already. In fact, I like it so much that I have read the original novel/book couples times as well. Both are equally excellent even though the drama has made many changes from the book which is as expected. The main male actor- Jin Han is handsome and very charming. He acted very well in this drama and brought life to the character of Zhu Zan who is arrogant, loyal, determined, and intelligent altogether. He is the only son of a honorable Duke and has fought many wars along side with his father since youth, of course he’s arrogant, and of course he’s loyal to his country and the love of his life. So please ladies, a slim lady-like man with a pretty face can’t portrait Zhu Zan, but Jin Han is just prefect. Please do not disregard this drama or the effort that people have put in it only because the main male role wasn’t done by your favorite feminine pretty boy actor. In fact, the whole cast was done right! Jun Jiu Ling didn’t entangle herself with the other three men and she intended not to entangle herself with Zhu Zan at first either, which is another beauty of this drama. She was always clear where her heart is and never misled the other three men. I can’t stand toxic femininity who use men up with no regard for their own gains.

Being the daughter of the former crown Prince, it is actually a degrading thing for the emperor to have granted her marriage to an imperial guard. Forget the 'imperial', he is just a guard. I've seen plenty of Asian historical dramas to know that such would never happen under normal circumstances...the exception is if she is in love with the guard, not just being granted one. This emperor obviously wants to debase her(seeing as the synopsis says he killed her father, the former crown Prince to get the throne).

You do have point but not all imperial guards are (were) commoners. A lot of sons from noble families who aren't (weren't) firstborn (meaning not destined to become the heirs of their families) became imperial guards (because not everyone can be around the emperor). If you watch(ed) Court Lady, you will understand. Also a lot of Prince Consorts are (were) chosen from noble families sons to marry imperial princesses so it's not really degrading. The emperor may have married her to an imperial guard but he is high-ranked imperial guard since he can appear in front of the emperor so the decision may have been because he wanted to control her by tying her to someone he trusts.

@@mayahs7786 they might be from noble families, but their families are just rich/wealthy families not necessarily from the top tier families. Female lead is a Princess. She should marry either a Prince or a son of one of the top(highest rung of the ladder) families like the Dukes or even in some cases a popular general.....not some royal/imperial guard. Like you mentioned, in court lady, those prince consorts were chosen and made princes first to make them worthy of marrying a princess, that shows how very high her status is. This arrangement here is just for Mr emperor to control the princess through a man he knows has the character to 'keep her in check'.

@@zionlady5921 Sure but not always if she had to marry a prince it should be one from another kingdom, if not it would be considered incest even though I know in some rich families or royal families they tend to marry blood-related distant family member. The Princes Consorts get their titles by just marrying a Princess not all of them have to make contributions to marry a princess; some gain them like you said by just being from a top tier noble family other by making contributions like protecting the country, helping the emperor ascend the throne etc... Since he is a high-ranked imperial guard, his family status automatically elevated with him in the top tier which qualifies him to marry a princess. Even if the emperor wanted to be petty, he wouldn't go far in his humiliation because he knows people are watching his moves. This Lu Yin Qi in the novel was the head of the imperial guards and also head of a personal force of the emperor, I assume it's the same in the drama. So someone who has control over all the imperial guards in the palace isn't totally undeserving of marrying a Princess since he also contributed to put the current emperor on the throne so his reputation and qualifications are high.

@@mayahs7786 My point is, even if he qualifies because of his family, he is NOT the first in line for consideration. In fact, he should be the last. There are others before him but they were overlooked. In one of the scenes I saw(upcoming episode), Male lead was with the princess on a horse and stopped by this imperial guard who was obviously after the princess...ML only said "I am..(so & so)......Let me see who dares to stop me", and NO ONE dared to stop him. Even Mr imperial guard cleared himself. There were usually 3 rungs on the ladder: 1st- those wealthy/rich families that are merchants or businessmen and have so much money, and scholars. 2nd- families of noblemen(aristocrats) or ministers. 3rd- Dukes who were princes or descendants of princes who were not the crown prince and therefore were given provinces to govern...even viscounts who were below dukes are here. Now, it is only the 1st and 2nd tier that can offer to be imperial guards, never the Dukes cos that is considered an abasement. Now for the drama, emperor overlooked the 3rd tier cos that would give female lead a powerful position, and married her to others.

我看劇是很挑剔的，過去廿十年來只從頭到尾看了五個中國劇集，兩個韓國劇，和兩個日本劇。港劇不堪廿十年了，就只重溫了＂義不容情＂和＂射雕英雄傳＂。而有重溫再看性的劇和書原著的就只有＂九齢＂和＂明蘭＂。娘娘砲的美男和小男生，一定跳過，亦不花時間去批評。有人惡意批評＂九齡＂男一，我是可以預料的，不竟這是一個極度左傾和推戀童合法化的年代。 但，看過原著多次的人，都非常喜歡金瀚的朱瓚，他把朱瓚，演活了。別人喜歡的娘砲美男生是演不來的，儘管他們要抹殺全劇的努力和成功。有別的留言提及＂他自小随父北疆征战成长，自不能由面粉团捏成似的花俏男去演，略带粗犷并擅演不羁的金瀚正合适＂。而且金瀚演的朱瓚更多了兄弟情義在劇中，他和寶塘，三冰的戲份逗得很！朱瓚和九齢的相處在劇中和原著是非常不同的。原著中，九齡是不認識朱瓚的，但少時有兩次相遇。朱瓚認識九齡，亦從小愛慕她。不竟，九齡是太子的二公主。而且，太子和成國公政見相近，再加上朱瓚是成國公唯一的世子，按理和九齡生為二公主是非常配的。作為世子的朱瓚當然明白這個道理，所以他對九齡的愛慕和期待是合情合理的。再加上朱瓚本身就有世子的專橫和對情的莫名𢴇著。 金瀚本人和在劇中都非常有男人魅力和帥氣。全劇選角都非常好，值得一看再看！ ＂明蘭＂全劇七十多集，能有空間和時間把人和人與人之間的關係細心刻畫，但＂九齡＂全劇只有四十集，是可惜了一點，尤其少了成國公的威風。
