I checked to see if you have a video on building your bog filter. I need directions for building one. I saw when your fish emerged from a cave. That is the first reference to a cave in ponds I’ve ever seen! I would love to know more. Five feet of snow! We don’t get 5” but I would love to know about the cave. In the South where I am, they recommend that part of the wildlife pond be 3’ deep for overwintering. I will look into having a cave as well. Thank you for sharing! I’m putting the link in my pond building document. 😊

I am planning to upgrade the pond next year to make it bigger I was having a lot of issues with the water quality. So I did a lot of researching on bogs. So I built a simple quick one this year just to get me through this year. It's real simple All you basically got to do is dig a hole stick a pipe in there fill rocks down with it and have your pump hose go into that pipe the water will go down to the bottom and then come up through all the stones and filter it out. After a matter of about 2 hours of it running I started to see the pond clearing immediately it was amazing highly recommend. Course when I make my pond bigger I'm going to put the caterpillar on the bottom and have the pipe going to that so it disperse up through there I'm going to do it the right way. However the way I did it the easy quick way temporary way works just as good you would not believe how clean that water is coming out. If you have any other questions or if I didn't explain enough let me know unfortunately it was a last minute decision and I did not record me doing it. There's a lot of videos on KZbin about it. Some of them are a little too high-tech you don't have to get that involved with it I found out obviously because it's working just fine for me I can now see right to the bottom of my pond.

Also as far as the depth my pond is only two and a half feet and like I said we get a lot of snow and cold in the winter. And I've not had any problems I keep bubblers on all winter so there's always a hole in the water The fish just go into the cave and hibernate all winter I don't see them again until spring. And yes you asked about a cave I think definitely recommend a cave they love to go in there and hide if they're feeling scared and if it's too hot to go in there and cool down.

Start on the bottom layer with larger rocks and then smaller rocks as you get closer to the top
