ALDI, there are multiple Aldi stores starting within 27 min from Queens & that's calculating traffic. I live on the west coast so unfortunately no ALDI but the majority of the US has an ALDI within driving distance & they're in 11 countries so it would be great to get you to an ALDI store.

June, your Budget videos have really changed the way I cook. I make sure to reuse the scraps I would normally throw away (ex: cilantro stems, pumpkin seeds, etc) I try to buy more ingredients that I would never normally buy to experiment with like you often do (ex: the bloody spleen) I constantly think of ways of how I can reuse my leftovers. Thank you!!

Hi June and Julia, after watching this, I got nostalgic and went back to the very 1st episode of Budget Eats. With inflation going bonkers, what do you think about doing a one off, $25/inflation edition?
@sissinoklahoma20572 жыл бұрын
Expired food tip: tiny taste.. if its metallic tasting or your tongue tingles or burns, it is bad. You can also just put it on your lips, they will tingle/burn the same way but no taste involved. On meats, if you can't tell while in the package, while starting to cook and especially before adding any seasoning, smell the cooking smell, if there's an odd or super sweet smell, let it cool down and throw it out. If you HAVE to eat it, make sure your internal temperature is over 180 degree Fahrenheit. Eat at your own risk, I'm not liable, just trying to help from a long childhood of food scarcity.
@mom24boybarians2 жыл бұрын
I concur with the "have to eat it" advice. The best way to make sure it really ALL gets up to temperature is to boil it and keep it at a boil 5 minutes. You can boil in water, broth, tomato juice, etc.

Happy to see you and Fred again and to know Aaron is there in the background to answer the major foodie questions! (😆) I’ve been following your live vlogs and I know it’s been a rough time. Glad to see today was a “good” day. Like you and many of your viewers, I’ve experienced parental loss, both my parents over the last five years. Just know that the loss, though always painful, will morph over time into something more manageable. Let your work, your cat, and your resident food critic/significant other, (plus good friends) sustain you through the tougher days. And take some small comfort in the fact that your talents and camera presence have turned a bunch of far-flung strangers into a supportive fan base that would be the envy of any KZbinr (and of most “civilians”)…🤟😎

First of all, June is a national treasure. ❤️ I love Budget Eats and will keep watching it if you keep making it. And if June needs a break, it is worth the wait. Thank you for acknowledging that buying small and local is a luxury for many people. I see so much shaming on food channels and blogs toward people who shop at the conglomerate, big box stores because ethics, sustainability, etc. But for many families, it’s all they can afford. I would love to shop exclusively at farmers markets, locally owned meat and seafood markets, and the most sustainable stores…but that’s often out of my limited budget.

Also in regards to the jar problem: I do this all the time. Use a 50/50 vinegar and water solution and let it sit in the jar for a few hours and it should disinfect/get rid of the smell. Also to get rid of sticky labels using a small bit of lighter fluid with a paper towel works really well!

For bitter melon, I used to hate it as a kid but you just have to soak it first in a water with salt then after 30 minutes or so, blanched it. Then just story fry it with garlic and onion then try it with egg and soy sauce to tase with salt and pepper and you are good to go

Shadowruin I totally feel you. It depends on what leftovers you have really. If I have leftover bacon, sausage, or eggs I either add it to fried rice with celery or make a fritata out of it with veggies. Leftover salad, you can add it to a wrap (tortillas) with chicken, bacon, eggs, etc. Be creative but stay simple. With soups, a bit hard , all I can think of is turn it to congee.
