Greetings, Brother Rob! I see the whole team working in the garden, Yes, removing the overgrowth around the fruit trees always improves the appearance of the garden, I did the same yesterday too .. reusing all the biomass as mulch , Nice additions Much respect .. One Love

Thanks Brother Dan. We are trying to knock out a section at a time. We got quite a bit done over the three day weekend. Rained in today but we'll get at it again when it stops. We try to reuse as much as we can. Much respect, my brother!

We like how you guys are using the tarps. Great idea to leave enough space for your pickup truck. We are trying radishes right now also. The fig trees look good. The front garden is beautiful also. The work on the homestead is never done. You guys are doing a great job. We enjoyed the tour. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your evening

Thanks so much. You all inspired us with your container systems. We are so tired of weeding the large areas. We are surprised by how well some of the figs are doing. We are making progress but know it will take time and repetition to keep it cleared. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Hi Rob. We are in 4b/5a so we have a late start. trying to grow in raised beds made with straw bales. Growing, but slowly. If it were us, we'd cover the whole yard in plastic so we don't have to mow! Haha.
@EssayonsFG
@EssayonsFG Жыл бұрын
I've thought about it but we like the green manure. It saves us from buying tons of fertilizers and composts to feed the garden. But every time I mow or weed the fence line I second guess that. LOL

Great idea! We had a video on them, on the old channel. Will have to do an updated one this year. We've boiled them, sauteed them in breakfast hash, and eaten sliced in salads but our favorite way is roasted with other veggies.

How old is the paw paw tree? Are you going to replace the one that died? Great example of chop and drop. Did the elder starts I set you survive?
@EssayonsFG
@EssayonsFG Жыл бұрын
The pawpaws are about 6 years old. We won't replace the one that died, as we still have two left. One of the elder starts survived and will be going inground soon. Thanks again.

Question: By putting the figs in ground or in raised beds would you have to wrap it for winter or will it sustain itself during the winter? I have a Chicago fig and I normally put it in the garage in the winter. This is the 3rd year and it’s got lots of little figs all throughout (not ready to pick but so exciting).
@EssayonsFG
@EssayonsFG Жыл бұрын
Zone 7 and higher, you should consider wrapping the figs over the Winter or the cold may kill the above ground growth. The roots may survive, but you'll get less fruit on the new growth the following season. We liked moving some figs indoors but have so many citrus and banana plants we are running out of room in the greenhouse and garage.
